Tests and quizzes are used to gauge student understanding and inform subsequent teaching. A student will not have more than two major tests in one day. If a teacher sets a date for a test and a student already has two tests scheduled for that day, the student must inform the teacher who will then negotiate another date for the test. Short quizzes do not constitute major tests. A test measures learning of a much larger amount of content, e.g. the topic of nutrition studied for six weeks. Please note students who are absent due to school related events should not be expected to take tests or other assessment work the first day they arrive back in order for the student to seek support or clarification on missed work before having to take an assessment.
Grades 10 & 11 students have formal cumulative examinations in most subjects studied. The examination covers material learned throughout the whole year.
Grade 12th students have full formal examinations in January. These exams are a practice for the final IB examinations in May and so are called “mock exams”. Material learned throughout 11th grade and the first half of 12th grade is examined. Grades 6-9 may have placement exams in Mathematics and Languages to help to place the student in the appropriate level class in the following year.
