The amount of homework you can expect to receive depends upon the grade you are in. 6th grade students can expect on average an hour of homework every night excluding week ends, whereas 12th grade students should expect to spend on average at least three hours working every evening including week ends. Teachers work with students to try and make sure homework assignments are evenly spread throughout the week, but there will be times when the work load is heavier, for example towards the end of a grading period such as mid semester.
Some subjects find it better for student learning to set small amounts of work three or four times a week, for example languages such as German, French and Spanish and mathematics. Other subjects, such as science may set a more substantial assignment once a week.
