Class attendance begins every morning with Homeroom at 8:32. It is important to be there on time. We place great importance on punctuality; it is a sign of respect for the teacher as well as ensuring that you do not miss any important information. There will be consequences for lateness which include serving an after-school detention if you are repeatedly late to homeroom or a class in a semester.
FIS actively supports students who participate in a variety of activities that may take them out of classes. The pastoral team does however monitor this and ensure that students are balancing their commitments and managing their time away from classes so that academics do not suffer. Any student away for more than 15 days will meet with their year head and assistant principal to help them balance their workload. Additional days away representing the school will need to be carefully managed or (at times) forfeited.
Skipping classes is treated very seriously. For the first occurrence, you will serve an in school suspension which involves losing all free time during breaks and lunch for a week. Subsequent occurrences will result in a parent conference and placement on a contract which may result in you not being offered a place in school for the following year.
