Russell E. Lund

Russell E. Lund, 90, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Unity Point Health-Trinity, Rock Island. Visitation will be Wednesday July 3 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan.

Graveside services for Mr. Lund will be 1:30 pm, Wednesday July 3 at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Memorials may be made to VeteransAid.org or to the QC Honor Flight.

Russell was born on March 25, 1923 in Chicago, a son of Oscar M. Lund and Ragna Ordahl Lund. He married Mary Lee Hawthorne on December 20, 1947 in Logansport, Indiana. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2003.

Mr. Lund was a material handling representative for Thomas Truck & Castor Co. He retired from work in 1991.

Russell was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island.

During World War II, Mr. Lund was a pilot in the U.S Army Air Corp. Lt. Lund was part of the 13th Air Force, 42nd Bomb Group, 390th Squadron and flew 23 low level combat missions in the B-25 Mitchell while he was in the Pacific Theater.

Survivors include his children and their (spouses), Jack (Joanne Egges) Lund, Boulder, CO., David (Rose) Lund, Rock Island, IL, and Tom (Amy) Lund, Louisville, CO.; grandchildren, Amelia, Jacob, Ali, Jamie, Conner, and Tyler. Mr. Lund was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Mary Lee.
