Francine was born June 28, 1950, in Rock Island, to Clemet and Helen Lindstrom Johnston. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1968 and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Western Illinois University in 1971.
They were united in marriage on June 1, 1974, at St. James Lutheran Church in Rock Island.
John acted as the president of the Rock Island District Dental Society and had a loving and dedicated patient base. His son, Kirk, joined him in practice in 2009. After practicing dentistry for 41 years, he retired in 2012. John was an avid runner and bicyclist and enjoyed cross-country skiing in Wisconsin. He took up woodworking after retirement.
Francine taught fifth-grade language skills at Denkmann Elementary until the birth of her first child. Afterward, she dedicated herself to being a wonderful mother and routinely volunteered at school and the PTA. She actively participated at her church, in King's Daughters and PEO and enjoyed going to the Moline YMCA. She was very committed to caring for aging relatives.
John and Fran deeply loved their children and enjoyed attending Janna and Kirk's school and athletic events. They maintained their Moline basketball seats for more than 20 years. They loved watching Hawkeye sports and attending football games in Iowa City. They spent considerable time at the family cabin in Cable, Wis.
They were overjoyed to be grandparents. One of John's favorite things to do was to spend time coloring and riding bikes with his grandchildren. Fran adored Gus, Pete and Annika and was a dedicated and loving grandmother. They were members of St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island. They were giving, loving, and generous to everyone they knew, and their loss will be felt by many.
