Here you will find my Teaching Philosophy that I created in my class at trinity called "Methods of Teaching Physical Education". This document goes into detail about my thoughts and beliefs when it comes to teaching young minds. I chose to upload this artifact to provide some insight on my background and why I chose to teach physical education.
The standard that this document most closely relates to is 9H, "understands the importance of modeling appropriate dispositions in the classroom". Living my life in the most positive and uplifting way helps me to bring that energy into the classroom and provide a safe and inclusive environment for all of my current and future students. This artifact is important because it showcases who I am and who I want to be as a teacher. The evidence of understanding and working towards this standard is noting how I model living my healthy life to my students.
Referring back to this document throughout my student teaching has helped me to learn about who I want to be as a teacher. Looking back to what motivated me to take this step and continue my education has helped to keep me motivated throughout my student teaching. This can be brought into my future classroom because I will always have something to refer back to on the hard days.
I believe my students took a liking to seeing someone their own age lecturing. This speaker used words that my students understood, and connected his talking points to topics tat young children would feel connected to and understand. This is an important artifact for my future teaching career because bringing new sources and fresh ideas into the classroom is a way to continue learning myself. I learned that there are always ways to get through to your students, you just have to dig a little.
I chose to upload this Ted talk because I am constantly reminding my third graders to be leaders. They are the leaders of the school, and they are held to a higher standard than the other students. This is a Ted Talk that I recently showed my 3rd grade classes during PE to show them that even at a young age, you can be a role model and a leader, just like Jack in this video.
This ted talk went over so well with my students. I believe that seeing someone close to their age speaking about being a leader really stuck with them more than it would have if it was an adult speaking. I worked with the 3rd grade team to find motivation for the students to act as leaders in the school. This video was my contribution to the cause, and it relates to standard 9N. This standard states, "collaborates with other teachers, students, parents or guardians, specialists, administrators, and community partners to enhance students’ learning and school improvement". Encouraging students to be role models for their classmates and the other students in the school assists in improving the school by setting an example.
