This tool can be connected to my future teaching classroom because these tests are state mandated. As long as I am teaching, I will be running mandatory school testing during PE class. I learned that it is important to keep a consistent record of these tests because many of the students like to knowhow they did in previous years. Keeping an organized record allows the teacher to provide these results year after year, and give the students motivation to beat their previous year's results.
Here I have inserted the Pacer Test score sheet that we used to assess our students during the fitness gram testing. This assessment is used to keep track of the student's aerobic ability when it comes to pacing themselves. There are multiple tests that are required to be administered by the state of Illinois. The Pacer test is 1 of 4 fitness tests that must be completed by all students. I chose to upload this score sheet to provide an example of an assessment I used during student teaching.
There are multiple score sheets that can be used when students are completing the fitness gram testing. My cooperating teacher and I chose to use the state provided score sheet to ensure full understanding for my student teaching. Standard 7J talks about using appropriate assessment tools to provide the most accurate learning goals and targets. It states, "uses assessment results to determine student performance levels, identify learning targets, select appropriate research-based instructional strategies, and implement instruction to enhance learning outcomes". In using the state provided learning assessment, I am following the proper guidelines and creating a consistent habit for my future testing assessments.
In doing this technique, the students learned that I am keeping track of their progress each day, and they use this to try and do better in their stretches. Once the students understood WHY we keep consistent warm u activities, they were able to use this to their advantage and push themselves to set and achieve new goals.
Here I have uploaded an example of a lesson plan that I created. The lesson itself is not the focus here though. The focus is the warm up activities listed under "Sequence of Learning Activities". The first 2 activities on the majority of my lesson plans are stretching and laps around the gym. This artifact was posted to show a sense of routine. Each day the PE activities begin the same. I implement this practice to give the students a sense of routine in their day. Once students leave the school, I have no idea what their outside life looks like. I believe providing a consistent schedule for students goes a long way for their habits. Assessing a student's improvement in speed for laps or flexibility for stretching can be done daily with this technique.
This form of assessment can be classified under a type of "progress monitoring tool". According to standard 7A, "understands the purposes, characteristics, and limitations of different types of assessments, including standardized assessments, universal screening, curriculum-based assessment, and progress monitoring tools". I communicate these assessments with the students by saying "hey Bob, great job on those straddle stretches! You are able to touch your toes, and you couldn't do that last week!". This is a great way to keep track of their progress and motivate them to surpass their goals.
