I learned that you can never make too many connections, especially as a student teacher. This has helped my development into a teacher because of the experience I am getting from coaching my own students. I am working on creating professional relationships within my workplace, in order to have a successful career. This artifact holds a lot of significance or me because4 I am living out the career that I want for myself during my student teaching semester. This is helping me solidify my plans to become a teacher and a coach.
Here I have inserted a screenshot of an email I received. I am coaching the 2023 Boys and Girls Track and Field Teams at South Loop Schools, and I was required to complete this coaches training. I completed this training with my co-teacher and coach. This was a great way to get to know the students better, give back to the school, and create relationships with other individuals involved in the school.
Since becoming a coach for South Loop Schools, I have been able to expand my relationships to the families of my students. Creating stronger relationships with the students, guardians, and other staff members at South Loop has allowed me to work towards completing standard 8P, that states "develops professional relationships with parents and guardians that result in fair and equitable treatment of each student to support growth and learning". In creating relationships with my student's parents, I am able to connect with them easier. This is progress towards meeting this standard because I am practicing holding relationships for my future career as a teacher / coach.
I have uploaded my family communication log that I created during my time student teaching at South Loop Schools. I chose to display this document because I was keeping relationships with multiple parents / guardians of my students. This log was created to keep track of any contact home regarding behavior or student need for 8 specific students.
This artifact relates to standard 8Q. This standard states, "establishes respectful and productive relationships with parents or guardians and seeks to develop cooperative partnerships to promote student learning and well-being". Each student's progress was tracked on this document so I was able to use it as a reference. A progress report was created for the students, and a plan was put in place to help the student become successful in reaching their goals. Emails and phone calls were exchanged to keep an pen line of communication between the teacher and the parent/guardian.
Creating this document allowed me to take note on what was successful for some students, and what was unsuccessful for others. Keeping a communication log also is beneficial for record keeping in case I would ever need to refer back in my future teaching career. Keeping documentation from previous students available could assist future students.
