This presentation was important to my development as a teacher because it really helped me to break down a sport skill in-depth. This is something I will be doing every day in class to teach my students about different sports, activities, and practices.
I chose to upload one of my sports skills presentations from my Structural Kinesiology class. This presentation is important because it showcases information from properly performing a sports skill to injury prevention and treatment. This type of information is vital when working in a physical education setting. I want to ensure that I am teaching the proper form to my students so they can perform these skills confidently in their outside life.
Throughout my education at Trinity, I was taught to explore all concepts to ensure that I was providing the most accurate and usable information for my future students. Standard 2M, "uses a variety of explanations and multiple representations of concepts that capture key ideas to help each student develop conceptual understanding and address common misunderstandings" is a prime example of why I created this presentation.
I have uploaded a presentation that I created for a Trinity class Individual & Dual Sports. I used this presentation to explain the game of Bocce Ball to my students. It was a great resource to have, and my students loved learning about a new game. Very few of them had ever played before, and this activity is so versatile that it can be played in numerous locations.
For many of my students, I was introducing Bocce Ball to them for the first time. Standard 2G states, "understands the theory behind and the process for providing support to promote learning when concepts and skills are first being introduced". In using a visual aid for my first time players, I was able to present this power point to the class and work with them to understand the basic rules of the game. This is important because we were able to work together as a class to find common ground in a new activity. The students used this power point as a tool for learning a new activity and progressed towards meeting this standard.
This presentation connects to my future classroom because this is an activity that I will be teaching for years to come. As the years go, and as information changes, I can update this presentation to reflect the most updated information. Using assignments in the classroom that I have completed or created during my time at Trinity was not something I originally planed on doing. Having these projects to use in my current and future teaching career has been a huge help in my success.
