In using this tool, I realized that having a type of visual aid or teaching tool when providing instruction to students has a positive impact on their ability to retain the information being taught. This was a valuable lesson for me, because moving forward I was sure to have a rules sheet available for any activities that could be confusing. I can connect this to my future teaching career because this is a lesson that I learned that did not go well at first, but ended up helping me provide better instructions in the end.
Here you will see a cheat sheet that I found on a website called "The PE Specialist". This website has been extremely beneficial to me in my student teaching semester. There have been so many available resources, tips, and game ideas to use in the classroom. I uploaded this specific instructional tool because during my four-square unit, I did not originally have a rules sheet available for the students to view. I did a quick search on the PE specialist and this tool was available for me to use or the remainder of my lesson. It was so helpful to have this resource when teaching four-square to my students.
Being able to understand the needs of the student(s) is essential to be a successful teacher. Changing up the rules or modifying a teaching plan is sometimes the best way to guarantee student success. Standard 5H states that a teacher, "understands when and how to adapt or modify instruction based on outcome data, as well as student needs, goals, and responses". This plays a major role in recognizing the student needs and when it is necessary to adjust the lesson plan. This artifact is important because the students who were able to use this during the game provided positive feedback for having a cheat sheet. The students who were not able to use tool this reported more confusion and frustration during the lesson.
In using outside equipment in the gym, (projectors, tv's, the internet, etc) students learn to think outside the box and step out of their comfort zones. My goal for using YouTube as a resource is to hopefully teach the students where they can go for resources for similar activities. From this video, the students were able to lear about their bodies and how stretching and moving is beneficial for all body types and abilities. Providing an inclusive environment for all students connects to my future classroom because I want to provide an inclusive and fun class.
Here I have attached a yoga video for beginners and kids. I chose to upload this video as a sample for what I used to introduce my students to our yoga unit. This is a youtube channel that I have followed for years, so when I noticed new videos teaching yoga to children, I had to try it. This artifact was a major success when using it in my PE classes. This is a great tool if as a teacher you want to learn about yoga WITH your students.
Having access to a projector and the internet has been a major factor in my student teaching success with my students. Providing videos that my students can reference and access on their own time is part of teaching students how to be successful in physical education outside of school. Standard 5C is connected because it states, "knows how to implement effective differentiated instruction through the use of a wide variety of materials, technologies, and resources". Using different materials such as a projector provides a new setting for students to learn successfully. This allows them to see there is more to physical education than just running laps and doing push ups.
