STEM FORENSIC
STEM Forensic is our most popular module. Our past participants include students from SBPI Gombak, MRSM Felda Trolak, Maahad Integrasi Tahfiz Sabak Bernam and other primary and secondary schools. This module has also been demonstrated in various carnival and location including KL Science Engineering Festival (KLESF), Pesta Buku Selangor, Da Men Mall, Perpustakaan Raja Tun Uda PPAS and others. We have also conducted teachers workshop with this module.
This module involves a role playing of crime solving. Participants will become detectives in a group and they need to collect samples at the crime scene. Then, they will try to conduct few experiments including fingerprinting, blood test, DNA fingerprinting and toxicology. Based on the information gathered, they will have to find the suspect and solve the crime. This module will introduce various knowledge in physic, chemistry, biology and mathematics. On top of that, this module will inculcate STEM skills including critical thinking, logical thinking, problem solving and creativity.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we have developed the STEM Forensic Virtual Hunt. This module allows participants to experience STEM Forensic module virtually. We have conducted this hunt with National STEM Association and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) in a STEM Forensic Virtual Hunt competition as well as an online teacher workshop funded by PJ Seed Community Grant (MBPJ). We have received a lot of positive feedback for this virtual module and now we would like to invite everyone to experience this module. Contact us for more info.
STEM QUERY
STEM Query module has been developed by UNISEL lecturers as a teaching aid and mentor’s guideline in the mentor mentee project funded by MESTECC. This module is also suitable for parents, taking the mentor’s role for their kids or anyone who are interested in conducting fun experiment with their friends, relatives or teaching purpose.
STEM Query consists of 4 main modules focuses on real-life inspired STEM activity including crime-scene role-playing of detectives in Forensic Science module, the current in-trend pandemic inspired activity known as Microworld module, the exposure of STEM across the four-wall classroom boundary via Outdoor Lab module and the fun yet interactive concept in the Fun with STEM module that integrates ICT, mathematics and plant biotechnology knowledges.
This module is focusing on the four important STEM skills that are decision making, problem solving, critical thinking and creativity. These four skills are vital in order for the country to produce competitive and high quality workforce.
STEM @ HOME
STEM @ Home module originally was designed by the university lecturers to assist lockdown schooling (PKP) due to COVID-19 pandemic. This module aimed to facilitate STEM education both online and offline with a home-restricted STEM module.
The module consists of five submodules namely STEMtani, Easy Math, STEM Soap, DIY DNA and STEM Kitchen. STEMtani will introduce fundamental concepts of fertiliser by teaching participants to make their own biocompost and biochar and experimenting with them by growing bean sprout seeds. Meanwhile, STEM Soap activity will expose participants how to make homemade soap using simple procedures and waste cooking oil. Whereas in the DIY DNA submodule, participants will learn how to extract DNA from fruits using ingredients obtainable at home.
Easy Math will guide participants in learning about shape and polygon, area and volume, as well as angle and trigonometry from the comfort of their home. Lastly, STEM Kitchen will be conducted with three different activities, the first one is Why You Wash Your Hand. This module will expose the participants how microorganisms grow on the food source in the kitchen. Second activity is the reaction of dried fruit after mixing with several ingredients and causing a chain reaction by carbon dioxide, namely Dancing Dried Fruit. Finally, participants will be introduced to prepare Aiskrim Malaysia based on density and buoyancy principle to produce colourful ice cream.
STEM Kits
These kits were developed based on the STEM Query modules and have been awarded with Golds and Silvers in various innovation competition including Gold in the international level of Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE). The kits have been used in the STEM Mentor Mentee Project with secondary school students. The future plan is to mass produce these kits for Malaysian market.
From the top left, clockwise: Plant Biotechnology Kit, Forensic Kit, Flematics and Recreational Math Kits, Microworld Kit, Outdoor Lab Kit and ICT Society Kit.
