The STEM squad, led by Dr. Hazeeq Hazwan bin Azman, consists of 13 lecturers and 15 students the Centre for Foundation and General Studies, Faculty of Engineering and Life Sciences, Faculty of Communication, Visual Art and Computering, Faculty of Business and Accountancy, Faculty of Health Science and Institute Bio-IT Selangor.
21 Sep 2021 - We are proud to announce that our STEM Forensic Kit has received GOLD in the Carnival of Research and Innovation (CRI) 2021 organised by Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).
5 July 2021 - Unisel STEM Squad has been awarded with Gold for the ICT Society STEM kit and Silver for the Recreational Mathematics in the Innovative Research Invention & Application Exhibition (i-RIA) 2021 organised by the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
24 March 2021 - STEM Unisel led by Dr. Hazeeq Hazwan bin Azman has received 2 golds in the Asian Youth Innovation Award and 1 special award from the Chinese Innovation and Invention Society in Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2021 which was held virtually on 22 to 26th of March 2021. This historical achievement is the fourth consecutive year for STEM Unisel to receive either gold or special award in the MTE. The delegation consists of 12 students and 15 lecturers of Universiti Selangor.
The kits which were recognised with Golds are STEM Microworld Kit and STEM Plant Biotechnology Kit, both are STEM learning aids to facilitate STEM education. These kits were developed as part of the STEM Query module and were used in the STEM Mentor Mentee Project 2020/2021, funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
According to Dr. Hazeeq, the preparation for this virtual competition is a big challenge for them. Lecturers and students were discussing virtually and materials and modules have to be posted to the students due to the national lockdown (PKP) situation. Nonetheless, everyone were committed in order to ensure this clean streak of main prize in the MTE since 2018.

The line of judges was impressed with the products and the contents of the module. According to Baarathyee, member of the STEM Squad, the module and the kits were developed for teachers and parents to encourage them to use household items in conducting experiments with students and kids at home. The module was formulated as a guideline to inculcate STEM skills especially the creativity and critical thinking skills. These skills are vital to equip younger generation to be marketable in facing the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
These products were developed by STEM Squad through the Mentor Mentee Program 2019 funded by MESTECC at the rural schools of SMK Tiram Jaya and SMK Rantau Panjang. The STEM Squad consists of 24 students and 14 lecturers from Centre of Foundation and General Studies, Institute BioIT Selangor, Faculty of Engineering and Life Sciences and Faculty of Communication, Visual Art and Computering, Universiti Selangor. This program was supported by National STEM Association and UM STEM Centre.
According to Dr. Hazeeq, this is their biggest achievement so far since actively joining MTE since 2018. Prior to this awards, UNISEL STEM Squad was awarded Special Award: Most Innovative Project (MTE2018) and 1 gold medal for Forensic Science Module in MTE 2019 last year. As the coordinator of the squad, he believed that his module could help in creating awareness that STEM activity is affordable by using daily items in routine life. He hopes that this award could create more opportunities to the team and catalyse the outreach program to reach more schools especially the rural areas and B40 communities.
