Mrs McNally was born Anastasia Coghlan on 18th September 1891, daughter of shopkeeper Nicholas and Mary Anne (nee Mahoney). They lived in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception parish in Everton, later moving to Kirkdale. Anastasia trained as a teacher at Notre Dame Training College, Mount Pleasant. She started teaching at St Bridget's in Limekiln Lane in 1913 and stayed there until 1925.
Anastasia married Gerard McNally in 1924. He died after an accident within a few weeks of their marriage. She lived with her parents for some years after this tragedy.
She taught in St Gerard's, then became the first Headteacher of St Cuthbert's when it opened in 1928. She was at St Cuthbert's until her retirement in December 1956.
For many years she lived in Childwall, next door to her brother Joe (headteacher at St Sylvester's) and his family. Two of her sisters-in-law, also teachers, lived in the same road. They all attended Christ the King parish.
She died on the 8th March 1978.
