Rev John Blundell VF MA was born in Seaforth, Bootle on 17th April 1885, He was the son of Joseph Blundell, a pork butcher and his wife Elizabeth Blundell, nee Johnson.
John Blundell was educated St Edward’s and Upholland, and ordained by Archbishop Whiteside on 6th June 1914. In 1918 he gained Classical Honours from St Edmund House, Cambridge.
He became curate at St Sylvester’s, Liverpool to 1919. He taught at St Edwards to 1920, and Upholland to 1923 and then joined the Catholic Missionary Society.
From 1932 to 1935 he was Parish Priest at St Cuthbert's.
From there he became Parish Priest at St Bede, Widnes where he is recorded in the 1939 Register, with 2 curates, a housemaid and a maid. He was made Vicar Forane (VF), a priest who has responsibility over a number of parishes, in 1943. He was at St Bede’s until his death on 6th September 1952
