Paul Mathias
Born September 30, 1893 in Gubsen.
At age 17 was listed as a resident of Arden Precinct near Addy, Washington on the April 23, 1910 census. He was listed as a farm worker.
Paul worked as a train engineer for the Northern Pacific railroad.
He married Erma Jean Alexander about 1918/19.
They moved to follow Paul's work with the railroad and lived in Tacoma, Sumner, Spokane and St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Paul died October 24, 1966 and his ashes were scattered along the railroad in Montana. Erma died and is buried in Greenacres.
Paul and Erma had two children. A son, Glenn (born 1920, died 1995) and a daughter, Pauline (born November 8, 1923, died August 10, 2011).
Glenn married Alice May Chandler of Selah, Washington and they had five children. Bruce (born 1947), Paul (born 1948), Lois Ann (born 1949), David (born 1954) and Lynn (born ).
Glenn served in the U.S. Army during WWII then worked as an inspector for the Northern Pacific railroad.

David is a mountaineer operating a guide service from Wasilla, Alaska.
Lynn lived in Colorado and is published. Currently Head of Human Geography Research at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
Pauline married Don Hagan (born May 3, 1923, died October 10, 2008). Pauline and Don had no children.
The photo at right shows Engineer Paul Staeheli with the Northern Pacific Mainstreeter #2 at Paradise, Montana on August 9, 1962.
Paul retired from the Northern Pacific railroad on September 28, 1963 at age 70 after 46 1/2 years with the NPRR.
