Vision. Ensuring that the director's vision can be conveyed accurately throughout the rehearsal process and in the final product.
Communication. Scheduling, organizing, and facilitating communication between actors, technicians, and the director. This is the day-to-day––running rehearsals and keeping everything smooth and off the director's desk.
Technical Elements. Running technical areas, managing a design team, calling the show, and setting up systems for everything that happens backstage (including the run sheet)
Dimino knows that you are not a professional stage manager, and in many instances, this is your first time stage managing. All they expect is for you to do your best. That means you need to be willing to solve problems, work with others, establish efficient systems that are unique to YOU, and always be respectful.
Work-life balance is a very important value in this department. You shouldn't be pouring all your free time into your show, because that leads to burnout. However, you ARE expected to take initiative and prioritize. After all, this is a leadership position––you will be in rehearsals every day.
You will probably have a team of 1-2 ASMs, plus either an intern or PA. Below is an overview of the different members who may be on your team, as well as a hierarchy of all the production roles at Boone High School.
