Focused Stimulation is a method used in a functional approach to therapy, whereby the clinician incorporates a target into conversation, rather than a drill-based decontextualized approach. A key element of this approach is teaching the child to use the real names of items, and not a more child-directed name - for example, saying "banana" instead of "nana". Popular speech blog Toddler Talk lays out a number of benifits to this approach, for botht the client and clinician, including the ease of implementation, low cost, and ability to keep the interactions more naturalistic (Burgener-Vader, 2024).
