This is a holistic approach to language intervention, which emphasizes not only anatomical and cognitive development, but emotional and relational development as the springboard for therapy. The premise to this method of treatment is that we are treating a whole person and therapy cannot be approached in an isolated or fragmented manner. This treatment method also emphasized each client's individuality and uniqueness and does not take a one size fits all view - activities and goals are client specific. The "floortime" element directs clinicians to meet the child at their level - typically playing on the floor. This method of treatment is child-led and includes introducing challenges that the child will need help completing, referred to as Zone of Proximal Development. Scaffolding, being attentive to the client's emotional state, encouraging both verbal and non verbal communication and expanding symbolic thinking are other components of this treatment method ( Vollmer, 2024).
