Welcome St John the Baptist Family!
October 15, 2025
Grades 6, 7, and 8
Parents,
We thank you as you continue to encourage and participate as a family during this significant time as a family activity in coordination with St. John the Baptist Faith Formation classes. The At Home Family Lessons are a short lesson for parents and their children to learn together. One week they will study the lesson presented by the Diocese. The next online class will be an introduction to one of the many facets of our Catholic traditions, faith, or prayers. They are a great way to share your faith together for a better understanding.
Prayers that are repeated over a period of days have special names. A Tridium is three days of prayer. An Octave is eight days of prayer. A Novena is nine days of prayer.
The Rosary is a set of prayers we pray while meditating on specific events in the life of Jesus. We reflect on His life from before His birth (in the Joyful Mysteries), during His life (in the Luminous Mysteries), during His suffering and Passion (in the Sorrowful Mysteries), to even after His Resurrection (in the Glorious Mysteries).
Jesus devoted His life to teaching about God, performing miracles, and fulfilling His mission on earth. As you reflect on events in Jesus’ life, you can understand more about Him, His great love for you, and His willing sacrifice for you.
By meditating on the events in His life as you pray the Mysteries of the Rosary, you can learn how to be more like Him in virtue and have greater peace in your heart.
Padre Pio said, “Love the Madonna and pray the Rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today.”
The Rosary is a weapon. It can easily be envisioned as a sword wielded to do battle against sin. Pray the Rosary for yourself and others to turn even more from sin and turn to God. Pray for the redemption of sinners. Pray for justice and peace in the hearts of mankind and in the world.
The Rosary is a powerful prayer. It is good to understand this as you pray it. It is a weapon. Use it as a weapon for good and against evil. When you think of the Rosary this way, you may pray with more confidence and realize even more the power of God present in your prayers.
When you get to know someone better, you often love them even more. So it is with God.
As you pray the Rosary, you get to know God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit better. You reflect on Jesus’ life and you are spending more time with Him as you pray. As you get to know Him more you understand Him more and understand more about His love for you.
This leads to a greater love for God.
Pray the Rosary with your family or with a friend.
Francis was the son of a wealthy cloth merchant in Italy. After being captured in a war, he took to heart Jesus' words: "Sell all you have, give to the poor, and follow me" (cf. Mt 19:21). One day, Francis heard a voice say, "Repair my house." At first, he thought this meant the church building, but then he realized it meant the people of God. Francis went about begging and preaching. People joined him, and he formed religious communities that came to be known as Franciscans. Francis loved all creatures. He called them his brothers and sisters. In his poem "Canticle of the Sun", Francis tells created things to praise God. He was the first to make a Christmas manger scene with live animals. His feast day is October 4. St. John the Baptist Catholic Church just held a blessing of animals on this day.
See you next week!
