Welcome St John the Baptist Family!
3rd, 4th, & 5th
Parents,
We thank you as you continue to encourage and participate as a family during this significant time as a family activity in coordination with St. John the Baptist Faith Formation classes. The At Home Family Lessons are a short lesson for parents and their children to learn together. One week they will study the lesson presented by the Diocese. The next online class will be an introduction to one of the many facets of our Catholic traditions, faith, or prayers. They are a great way to share your faith together for a better understanding.
Lord Jesus, at the beginning of this new year, we ask You to be our guide and strength. Open our minds to truth, our hearts to Your love, and our eyes to see You in others. Please help us grow in wisdom and kindness. Send Your Holy Spirit to be with us in every class, every decision, and every challenge.
Amen.
Love Thy Neighbor
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.
Luke 10: 27
What does it mean to be a good neighbor?
Why do you think Jesus taught using stories?
Why do you think Jesus taught us to pray saying “Our Father” instead of “My Father”?
Luke 10: 30-37 - The Good Samaritan
List three of the people that the story talked about.
If you asked the two men why they didn’t help, what are some excuses that they might give?
Why do you think people do not help other people when they are in need?
List two ways you can help your “neighbor(s)”
Make a copy of the sheet. Fill in the blanks with the words at the bottom of the story. Bring your completed story to class next week.
How can your actions help a friend or other person?
You can help a person physically by sharing gently used clothes or by donating food. You can also help physically by opening a door, picking up something that has dropped, or waiting for a person who is in your way.
You can help your neighbor emotionally with a wave, a hello, or a smile
Lord Jesus,
You teach us in your parable that there are two kinds of people--
--those who bend down to help and those who look the other way.
Which kind of people will we be?
We say, “Yes, Lord, I will love you and love my neighbor.”
But then we ask:
The migrant... is she my neighbor?
Those in poverty...are they my neighbors?
Victims of war across the world... are they neighbors?
One who faces racism… is he my neighbor?
Those disabled or elderly... are they my neighbors?
You remind us: Yes. All of us neighbors.
Show us how to love, Lord.
May we open our eyes.
May we emerge from our comfortable isolation.
May we build a world of compassion and dignity.
Lord Jesus, who was neighbor to all,
Help us to persevere in love.
Help us to restore dignity to the suffering.
Help us to build a society based not on exclusion, but on community.
Amen.
Bring your completed sheet to class.
See you next week!
