Sherwood station opened on 5 October 1874 as Oxley West as the interim terminus of the Main Line. It was extended to Oxley Point, now Chelmer on 4 February 1875 and not long later it was extended to Brisbane. The line through the station was duplicated in June 1886. In 1960, the station was rebuilt for the quadruplication of the line from Roma Street. On 17 November 1979, the line through the station was electrified. In 2010, the quadruplication was extended to Darra for the opening of the Springfield line.
Sherwood serves the homonymous suburb of Sherwood. It was named after an early farm in the area.
Sherwood station has our platforms consisting of twp island platforms. Platform 1 is for outbound services, platform 2 is for inbound services and platforms 3 and 4 are for additional peak services.
Sherwood station has four station entrances. Two are from the level crossing on Sherwood Road, one is on Honour Avenue and one is on Hedges Street.
