Darra station opened in 1874, when the line opened between Ipswich and Brisbane. A siding was constructed in 1885. Between 1885 and 1887, the line through the station was duplicated. The line was electrified to Darra on 17 November 1979 and from Darra to Ipswich on 20 September 1980. In 2010, the station was upgraded with two extra platforms coinciding with the opening of the Springfield line.
Darra is believed to have derived from the Scottish railway town of the same name.
Darra station has four platforms consisting of an island platform and two side platforms. Platform 1 is for services to Ipswich, Springfield Central and some express services to Rosewood, platform 2 is for Kippa-Ring services and some peak services to Bowen Hills, Caboolture and Nambour, platform 3 is used in peak hour only for services to Ipswich and Rosewood and platform 4 is used in peak hour only and is for services to Bowen Hills, Caboolture, Kippa-Ring and Nambour.
Darra station has four station entrances. Two are on Manburgh Terrace and two are on Railway Parade.
Darra station does have disability access.
There are bus stops nearby on Manburgh Terrace and Railway Parade. The routes that serve Darra are routes 103, 451 and 452.
