The original station opened in 1876, north of it’s current location as Oxley’s Point. It was renamed Riverton in 1878. In 1881, a siding was constructed which was later converted to the current station in 1889 and Riverton closed. The line was duplicated through Chelmer in 1886. In 1959, the station was rebuilt as part of the quadruplication of the line. On 17 November 1979, the line was electrified through the station
Chelmer station which was named after the Chelmer River in Essex, England. The station was named before the suburb.
Chelmer station has four platforms consisting of two island platforms. Platform 1 is for Ipswich and Springfield Central. Platform 2 is for Bowen Hills, Caboolture, Kippa-Ring and Nambour services. Platform 3 is for peak Ipswich services and platform 4 is for peak Bowen Hills, Caboolture, Kippa-Ring and Nambour services.
Chelmer station has four station entrances. Two on Halsbury Street and two on Honour Avenue. Each side has an overpass entry and a subway entry.
Chelmer doesn’t have any disability access.
There are bus stops nearby on Honour Avenue. The routes serving Chelmer station are Great Circle Line services 598 and 599.
