OBJECTIVE: This session was created to show you what we learned this summer form the online Revit certification prep class that Susan Roberts, Eliseo Garcia, Karin Spence, & I participated on this past June 24-27, 2013.
The link to the notes I took during this training can be found here at this link. http://goo.gl/bIpVvl
What we learned:
1-We need to access every teachers prior knowledge in software training before we do an online certification training. It's hard for someone with little to no experience to keep up with the class.
2-The classes can teach you a lot but you should apply (take the test) soon there after.
3-Our trainer was great but not sure if we all will be passing the test yet or not, so results still pending.
FYI:
In case for some reason you don't know this already. CISD requires that ALL of the high school courses end up with a certification of some sort. This does NOT mean by the end of lets say Engineering Design and Presentation that the students take the Autodesk CAD and/or Inventor exam successfully. However, by the end of Advanced EDP they should be able to do so.
The vendor that we work closely with in our Certiport . I believe all of our campuses have been signed up at this point to become Certiport testing sites.
Software certification exams that can be taken with on Certiport for varying costs.
Certiport offers Measure Up that is designed to help you prepare for and pass tests for MS, CompTIA, CISCO, & PMI.
Microsoft Office:
In the TWHS experience they found that most students simply don't have the time to learn and practice what they need for the tests. The students in the Advanced courses however are being successful thanks to the GMetrix training software for Microsoft Office that they found and use. You can read more about their experience at this link http://goo.gl/UwcAX7.
Currently we are looking for similar online training software for all of the industry standard software certifications that our students and teachers are expected to take and pass.
Autodesk:
Autodesk teachers may register to receive free certification exam vouchers by going to www.certiport.com/dare.
We may be experimenting with the Global eTraining for the Autodesk products this year. More information about that can be found here http://goo.gl/GaJVdC. Teachers can sign up for a free 30 day test drive.
If you'd like to take a practice test please email the Autodesk contact person at Certiport =

Adobe:
We haven't found anyone who delivers online certification training as of yet. However, this guy has a website FULL of valuable lessons and tips. He is an awesome Adobe trainer & teacher that I met at TCEA this past year. http://scotttrudeau.com/
