Theodore "Teddy" Scarlet was the second son of Andrew Jackson Scarlet, born 3 years after his brother Enoch. Teddy was in the mine when it collapsed in 1918. Enoch signed Teddy's death certificate.
In reality, Teddy survived the collapse and was taken to the Hiram Scarlet Memorial Hospital, where doctors told him that his legs were paralyzed. Enoch consulted the Witch for a solution. Enoch told the doctors that a grifter had impersonated Teddy, and in fact Teddy was killed in the mine and his body was unrecoverable. Enoch then presumably took Teddy back to the Scarlet Estate.
Popular Theory: It seems likely that Teddy is "the Entity" from the haunting. Charlie Jr. encountered the Entity in 1944, and the Entity claimed to be a victim and prisoner of the Scarlet family. Charlie also mistook the Entity for one of Edwardine's brothers at first, implying a family resemblance. It's possible that Teddy/Entity is still "alive" and locked up in the forbidden part of the Estate.
