The third eldest son of Silas Scarlet, Andrew Jackson Scarlet took over management of the Scarlet Coal Mines in 1868 when Silas retired. Under Andrew's management, the coal mine and surrounding town prospered. Andrew built most of Scarlet Hollow, including the Scarlet Estate.
When World War I began, Andrew turned over management of the mine to his elder son Enoch.
Presuming a natural cause of death, it's likely that Andrew died before the mine collapse in 1918; however, no death certificate is available.
