Social-emotional intelligence is an acquired skill and our teachers cultivate it by creating and fostering caring relationships. Each day, they aim to put our core values into action through healthy choices that support connection, respect, compassionate communication, and growth for all.
There are certain behaviors that are unacceptable at Saplings. We don’t expect that these behaviors will occur, though we feel we need to be very clear about them:
Saplings will not display violent, harmful or abusive behavior at the program, whether it is directed at other children, teachers or themselves.
Saplings will follow the safety requests of teachers. If they are unable to do this, it puts themselves and others at risk.
If a child is exhibiting a behavior of concern on more than two program days, the teacher will enlist the support of the parents to help the child understand the impact of their choices and will be in regular communication with the family. If additional services are required for the success of the student and the safety of all, the financial responsibility for those services falls on the parents of the child. In the unlikely event that the behavior continues despite the teamwork of the teacher and the parents, the child will be asked to leave the program.
