For this year’s book trailer I have challenged myself by bringing my book level a level higher and read a middle school book. In this book I was challenged with new words, kanji’s, and learned more about kendo. For my book trailer I wanted to make a similar video to last year however using more digital drawings and show more movement in the characters. I did wanted to add some more color to the video but I was left with very little time after everything was drawn. Next year I would want to add some color if possible to the video.
This is high quality work. The two- or one-frame sequences of the pictures help tell the story effectively. The drawings are simple enough so the audience is not distracted from the actual plot of the story. Creativity can be seen in other aspects as well, such as the humorous scene when the wrong person is presented as the main character, or how the trailer begins and ends with a serene yet tough-looking older athlete.

In the making of this project, Maya and I began by discussing/brainstorming potential ideas. We focused on making our film as entertaining as possible and concluded that a short film type of creation would be most fitting. Initially, we wanted to use young students as the storyline was centered around elementary students. However, that did not work out as our schedules did not match. Therefore, Maya and I decided that we would be actors ourselves and hired Nicholas Boyd as our videographer. Overall, I believe we did a pretty good job acting and succeeded in creating an interesting film!

When I first read “Tonchin san is near us”, I had lots of ideas oppo into my head. The story of this book was interesting because it was hard to predict what is going to happen next. Drawing the characters for the video was challenging. However, I enjoyed trying out new video effects. This is a book which I recommend to a large audience.
You can't help but smile when you see one of the girls being desperate to tell her friend about this ghost. However, the trailer's atmosphere quickly turns more sinister as more things about the ghost are revealed. This drastic turn in tone is very effective. Also, the fact that actual school classrooms were shown in the trailer gives the impression that the ghost is a lot closer to the audience than they might expect. It would have been great if you created another video, instead of repeating the same one.
This trailer explains with good detail how Hinata learns more and more about her mysterious classmate, Yu. The fact that Yu reveals only half of his secret does make the audience go and pick up the book. Narration contributes a great deal to the trailer. If you manage to tell the story without saying “A said…”, and “Then, B said…”, quality of the trailer would improve.

Making this year’s book trailer was more difficult compared to last year since I chose a chapter book instead of a picture book. The chapter book took longer to read, and was harder to understand. It was difficult to choose what parts of the book to include because I felt that every part was important in telling the story. In the book trailer, I did not add any drawings, just pictures because I did not have enough time to draw a proper picture. I also had trouble finding the background music that fit the theme of the book.

This book trailer is based on the book "カレー男やってきた”, about a curry man seeking to find a specific taste of curry. The story is told by several young elementary school children, who are featured in this book trailer discussing the curry man and attempting to create the curry taste he is looking for. Instead of drawing or animating the trailer, I recruited my friends to play the characters in the book, which is hopefully more comprehensible to a wider audience. I also added rhetorical questions on title cards to spark interest within the audience as an incentive to read the book to find out what happens.
The background music shows that the story is a mystery. It would be nice if you decide to use photos or animation and stick to one or the other. You should review your use of texts. If the audience can tell what they are, you may not need to use the texts. Use more space when you display the links in the end roll so that the audience can understand easily.
Trailers like this prove how effective real-life footage is in a book trailer. The creator also does a good job in explaining who Curry Man is. Just be careful not to film restaurant names by accident.

I tried to create a mysterious theme throughout my trailer to have the same theme and emotion as the book. I also created a question to emphasize the mysterious feeling. I also used music to make the trailer seem gothic. In the beginning of the trailer I made the pace of the music slow and after the turning point the person who drinks the medicine the problem will get bigger, I made the music faster to reflect the emotion of the elementary school characters. Overall, I worked really hard on the trailer and I hope that it will make people want to read the story.

「僕たちのリアル」is a very heartwarming story that is suitable for all ages. I found it difficult at first to make a trailer without spoiling any parts as I thought it would essential to making the trailer more interesting. Even through this difficulty I was able to somehow work around it by using images and videos from creative commons as well as music. Through this trailer I think I was able to get the theme of this story across.
From the music and images, audience can tell it is some kind of spooky story. The audience becomes interested in what kind of medicine it is. The quality of the trailer would improve if you could add sound effect and/or narration.
What kind of friendship is conveyed in the story? What are the relationships amongst the three? What are their secrets? You are successful in making the audiences want to pick up the book to find out. This trailer ends rather simply. In order to improve the quality, you may want to consider using sound effects, changing the volume of the background music and/or narration.

I think the trailer turned out poor. This is because I'm not very good at art, photography or editing, it was hard to put what I imagined into existence, and as a result of that I think that it came out quite poorly. I had to use Windows Movie Maker because I don't own a mac, and Movie Maker is very limited compared to iMovie, and I couldn't combine two different photos together, so I had to do it on an outside application. Because the dog doesn't exist, it was hard to make it seem like it was there too.

Whilst making the book trailer I found that I had difficulties with collecting images, videos, and music that I was originally planning to use. In my perspective, I felt that creative commons had limited options for media, so therefore I needed to compromise and find alternative things to include in my video. Due to this, I also explored drawing as a source for one of the images used in the video (since I couldn't find the image I was looking for on creative commons). Overall, the process of creating the book trailer was difficult, however, I believe that the video turned out as a success.
A boy in the film was playing with his invisible dog. It is a good trailer but too simple. It is unfortunate that the trailer does not really say what the book is about. It will be better if you add some narration or subtitles.
At the beginning, audiences empathize the main character who needs to go to the countryside because of unfortunate destiny. This trailer makes the audience want to read the book in order to find out what the life in the countryside was like. In order to improve the quality, you should consider showing the sense of unity in the use of images and creatively use sound effects and/or narration.
