2017 HS-C
First Place
「森は知っている」
Hokkaido International School
Alex Togashi (Gr. 12)
I was never a reader. I’ve struggled every reading assignment in the past; I wasn’t motivated to complete the book trailer. When I started reading the book, it was a shock how I was able to finish the book with ease. Each line gave me visualization on how the trailer would look like. I immediately got to work after I completed the book and began filming. It was a challenge for me towards the end of the semester, to express my full strengths in film making. Although, I’m proud of my work and hopefully will qualify in the Sakura Medals.
This book trailer has a strong impact. The word choices are sophisticated and matches with the BGM. The ending line is successful in leaving us asking “What happens to the main character?”. Well done!
Second Place
「脱走ペンギンを追いかけて」
「ひらめきちゃん」
It was a valuable learning experience due to the fact that we have both never heard of book trailers before and creating one in an two separate languages was both intriguing and fun. It was a different and interactive way to learn Japanese and we both really enjoyed this process.
We both chose this book because we enjoyed the book a lot. We related to the book and we thought that that everyone would enjoy the book as much as we did. To spread the word about this book we decided to make a book trailer together.
This book trailer is well structured, flows well, the ending is cute and inviting, but the trailer could have had a more convincing developments and graphics. I am not sure if the music choices match the contents.
This book trailer is cute and would appeal to younger girls. The challenging spirit to create the script in Japanese and English is appreciated. Perhaps, the example of memorizing multiplication could be shorter. The ending is inviting.
Third Place
「動物のお医者さん」
We took a liberal interpretation to the book in order to make our book trailer, in order to excite.
The use of the school facility is creative and interesting. What is the theme and main message of this book? It is not whether your pet is going to be O.K. or not. This video clip needs the hook that leads the viewers to the main theme of the book.
