Earning Points for Art
In the Rootlings ARPG the players progress through the game by making art and earning points as they go. The points in Rootlings are lumesse points (LP) and are awarded whenever the player creates within the world.
Point brackets stack with the level of detail and amount of time. For example:
8 LP for full color and shading
4 LP for fullbody
3 LP for three hours spent
10 LP for a full scenic background
= 25 LP
LP points earned are given to the rootlings depicted in the artwork. If a player makes art of someone else's character, they may also link the art in their rootling's tracker for a set bonus of 10 LP. If the player has more than one rootling they may decide which one gets the bonus.
This is meant to offer a reward to players who have drawn other people's characters when their own rootlings do not appear in the scene.
Tracking LP
Each rootling should have its own LP Tracker. We provide a free, pre-built version for all players, but you are free to build your own! You may also customize the pre-built tracker as much as you'd like.
To use the pre-built tracker go to File > Make a Copy > Share with the same people
Make sure to press "allow" when it says "some formulas are trying to send and receive data from external parties." This will allow your tracker to calculate LP without issues
It's reccomended to make a copy of the base tracker for every rootling you aquire and link them in the directory. This minimize tracker lag and make navigation easy! "Copy to new spreadsheet" will result in each of your characters having their own file.
Congratulations, you have a tracker!
You can enter your rootling's name, bestiary number, and dwelling in the top row. There is a section to the right to display their design and any other information you would like to note.
LP can be scored row by row. If you earned LP, enter the amount in the "LP addition" column. If you are spending LP, enter the amount spent as a negative number in the "LP deduction" column.
You may upload your art wherever you want, but it should be linked in the following coloumn. To the right of that is "Score Breakdown." You can use the LP Calculator to find the score of your art and write it here.
More rows can be added to the bottom of the sheet at any time for logging more art
To the left of the Character Information column is the Prompt Completion column. This may serve as a checklist for the quests and trials your rootling has completed. If you complete more quests than the space allows you can add another row by going to:
Insert > Row > One Row Below
How to Submit a Coronation Trial
When ready to submit your coronation trial, go to the Coronation Trial Form. This can be found above the LP Tracker's Directory, or around the site.
If your player name and discord handles are different, enter them both. If you'd prefer a different method of contact you can include that here, too. This ensures if either staff or player have questions during this process we can communicate.
LP Cost. If this is your first rootling the cost will be 0. Any additional rootlings will have a coronation expenditure of 100 LP. If the parent rootling does not belong to the player who is completing the form, staff will reach out to the owner for a confirmation before approving the coronation.
If you designed the rootling yourself, your name goes here. Otherwise, please ask the artist where we can credit them, and link their profile or list their username here.
Please link the bestiary entry of the parent rootling and their LP tracker here. This way we can make sure they have enough LP to complete the transaction, and can easily link them to your new rootling's bestiary ID.
Your rootling's ID is a way to sum them up with a few defining features. When filling it out, think about the essence of who they are. For coronation rootlings, their homeland is wherever they grew up. Choose one or two words to name this location.
All coronation submissions require a trial artwork to be accepted. Please link this alongside your character's design. If you have completed accessory quests you can link those here as well. If there are no questions about the design from you or from staff, the art you submit here will be used as their bestiary art.

Earthen Quest - add or remove any earthen gift + 15 LP
Create a piece of art in any medium that depicts your rootling interacting with the earthen gift you would like them to obtain or remove. Maybe they are discovering it for the first time, leaving something behind, or considering it a meeting with an old friend.
Dwelling Quests - claim a dwelling +15 LP
Wandering
Having a spiritual body filled with magic is an incredible feeling, but you suddenly feel out of place. There is an urge from within to go seeking. Something presses you to explore. Where do you go? Are you drawn to places familiar to you, or rather to vastly different environments? Is there anything blocking your path that forces you in another direction?
Calling
You can't quite place why, but you feel drawn to this area. Perhaps it's a deep sense of security that says ""home,"" or maybe it's a clutching gnaw telling you not to leave. What does this call look like? How does it feel? Is it a sound, a color, or a tingle on your spine?
Settling
You've decided to stay, and your presence creates change. It may be as large as felling trees, or as small as shuffled leaves on the soil. What have you done to make this place your home? How do you impact the land?
Home
This place feels like yours now. How did your relationship grow? Did you become territorial, or perhaps possessive of this land? Did you drive away the pre-existing inhabitants, or did you create a safe haven for all? Have any big changes been made from your time here?
Elemental Mastery Quests - develop elemental mastery +15 LP per artwork
Level 1 | Dabbler
The rootling has been practicing with this element through the course of at least three works of art. The rootling may have been portrayed being surrounded by the element, spending time observing it, playing with it, or another entry level activity.
Level 2 | Apprentice
The rootling and the elemental have become accustomed to each other. The rootling has a small amount of manipulation over the element. It may be able to raise a glob of water into the air, or control the rate of a fire's burn. The rootling must spend time practicing these skills, like strengthening a new muscle. The apprentice level must be portrayed in at least four works of art to progress.
Level 3 | Mage
Strength has increased dramatically from much practice, and the rootling now has a moderate amount of control over the element. It can now use this element in the performance of coronations or temple-births. It may begin battling with the element. The Mage stage should be presented throughout at least five works of art to progress.
Level 4 | Master
Full power and control have been achieved through repetitive hard work. The player may invent new ways for an elemental to be used so long as it aligns with the ARPG's world. The rootling may now manifest that element out of thin air whenever it pleases.
Human Alliance Quests - forming a mortal bond + 15 LP
Meeting
Your rootling has come across someone new. Perhaps it sees a campground from the view of a cliff, or maybe it has come face to face with a child in the woods. At some point in your story the rootling encounters a human, or group of humans, with which it will form an alliance in the future. This might be the first meeting, or it can be the tenth meeting, but it should be the beginning point of the bond.
Acquaintance
The rootling and the one(s) it has met have their first interaction (or sequence of interactions.) The dynamic of their relationship might be static from beginning to end, or it may change over time. The art in response to this prompt should portray how the characters feel about each other in the beginning of their journey. Do they get along right away? Does their friendship take time to grow? Is there a specific subject or activity they bond over?
Observation
This is an important stage of learning for the rootling. Depending on your story thus far, this could be your rootling's first up close experience of the human life. There will be a lot of things to take in. Portray your rootling and its person experiencing this new growth together. The human could be teaching the rootling a new skill, or the rootling may be teaching the human about nature.
Integration
At this point your rootling is quite familiar with its chosen party, and has spent a good deal of time learning about the humans in this area. The rootling has spent so much time, in fact, that it is now able to mimic man-made artifacts in its own bodily form. The rootling finds its own way to somewhat integrate into human society by creating a version of itself made up of various trinkets. This prompt may be portrayed as the rootling investigating some of its favorite objects further- or it may display your rootling introducing its human friend(s) to a brand new humanoid shapeshift form. Humanoid shapeshift will now be available as a consistent form your rootling can take at will going forward.
Utilize
How does your rootling use its shapeshift? How do the rootling and its alliance use their connection to each other? Perhaps the rootling helps the humans with tough tasks with the supernatural abilities its lumesse gives it, or maybe the humans work to help the rootling protect its dwelling. Use this prompt to show how the alliance is ultilized in your story. Why is it important? What purpose does it serve? How is it unique? How has it changed since the first meeting?

Summoning the Elden Root
Wherever you are in the world, the temple has a designated Elden Root. This creature will be beckoned by the birth of a new soul. How does the Elden Root enter the space? The Pouring of Lumesse
Your rootling must pour its lumesse into the trough to create the seedling. Is it elegant or messy? Is there a single drop of lumesse lost? Does the seedling form as an egg, or in its animal form? Is it bright, dark, or colorful? Does your rootling take to being a new parent naturally, or is this something it felt it had to do?
Guiding the Seedling

The color of their lumesse holds incredible value to them. Once becoming a clan leader all the rootlings in their clan will share this lumesse's color, what does it mean to them? Is it a mark of power associated with a strong memory? What has driven them to be a leader in the first place? And what do they hope to accomplish with this power? Create a piece of artwork inspired by this prompt."
