Comrades, teammates, friends, found family
Clans are ever-growing communities of 5 or more rootlings that function together as a team to achieve a common goal, or pursue common interests. They share a dwelling that may grow larger with every new member acquired. Clans can be a welcoming, hospitable, safe haven to passerby's, or they can be an impassible force of mystical strength.
Forming a Clan
Rootlings can form clans within their dwellings. Dwellings are located in specific portions of the world that are divided up between the rule of Elden Roots depending on the general biome. If a rootling wishes to become a clan leader, then it must perform the trials the Elden Roots require to deem it worthy.

Becoming a clan leader is a huge moment for a rootling. This is a very mature step to take. Not every rootling will or should become a clan leader. Clans and their members will be logged on the Clans & Inhabitants page.
Trial artwork must either include a full scenic background, a minimum of 800 words in writing, or scene depicting props for 3D art.
Requirements
In order for a rootling to become a clan leader it MUST:
- Have completed all of its dwelling prompts
- Have created at least one other rootling either by coronation or temple-birth
- Be sharing a dwelling with at least four other rootlings who will become a part of the clan
A Gift to the Earth
The rootling must partake in an action that benefits the health of their land. It may plant seeds, drive out poachers, protect an endangered species, or a number of other things. Players may come up with their own ideas as to what their rootling could do for its specific dwelling place.
Art of Peacemaking
To complete this trial the rootling must present the qualities of responsible leader. There may be a misunderstanding in the surrounding area that your rootling can help to resolve. There may be a bitterness or a battle going on that your rootling can heal. Portray a conflict your rootling has overcome.
Defining Self
If they have come this far, your rootling must have a very clear idea of who they are. Everything they have aquired has a meaning and purpose. The color of their lumesse holds incredible value to them. Once becoming a clan leader all the rootlings in their clan will share this lumesse's color, what does it mean to them? Is it a mark of power associated with a strong memory? What has driven them to be a leader in the first place? And what do they hope to accomplish with this power? Create a piece of artwork inspired by this prompt.
Initiation
After your rootling has completed its trials it will be given dominion over its dwelling by the Elden Root who is over the biome (or biome overlaps) in question. Your rootling and it's four contributors will be joined together as a clan, and their lumesse colors (if different) will change to match the clan leader's color. Please make sure ALL players are aware of this before forming a clan that includes their rootlings, if owned by multiple players. If a player owns a rootling in this space that does not want to be a part of the clan, please respect this and allow their rootling to share the space without being a part of the clan.
Upon Initiation a rootling clan leader must come up with an entry trial for its clan that will be presented to all future members.
Joining a Clan
Rootlings young and old may desire to join an existing clan. In order for a rootling to join a clan it must gain permission from the clan leader, and it must change its lumesse flame to the color of that clan. A clan's color is determined by its leader's lumesse.
Each clan will have an entry trial that its leader established upon initiation which new members will be responsible for completing in order to join.
Clans & Human Alliances
Consider how your clan treats humans! Some clan members may bond with a human- and face all the consequences that come with it. Rootlings who are in alliance humans often travel together, and it is possible that human may enter clan territory. Does the clan see this person as a guest, one of the group, or a trespasser? Do the clan-mates treat the human with kindness, indifference, or hostility? Every clan will be different. Certain clans might set rules in place for how they interact as a group. Even still, individuals within the clan may have different opinions, and even if overall a clan is friendly, there may be certain rootlings who are not safe to be alone around.
Families
Families are important in the world of Rootlings. They unite, nurture, and grow.
A rootling's family is built up from several different areas of life. Depending on the rootling's story, some family may feel much closer than others. How does your rootling feel about the other creature's in its life? Even more so, how does your rootling cope with loss?
Coronation Parent
Upon coronation the rootling has begun to form a family, however small. Whichever rootling performed the coronation will henceforth be its coronation parent. Their relationship may be good, bad, somewhere in between. How a rootling explores this in their story is completely up to the player.
Temple-Born Parents
If a rootling was born from a temple, then it has either one or two temple parents. It is possible for pairs of rootlings, friends or mates, to combine their lumesse into a new seedling.
Natural Life Family
If the rootling was created through a coronation, then it already has parents existing in the world. Something to consider is that the rootling now has a life that cannot be ended by old age. It may outlive its parents, and its siblings as well. If the rootling is not slain by outside factors it could go on living forever. How does your rootling cope with loss? How does it feel about its family slowly passing away, but itself being left alone? Your rootling might realize this upon coronation and decide to leave its old life behind to avoid this pain, or it might cling to it for whatever time remains.
Coronation & Temple-Born Siblings
There is no limit for how many offspring one rootling can have. Although it is encouraged that players invest into and develop one character greatly, many can be crowned or born. That being said, it is not uncommon for rootlings created from the same parent to think of each other as siblings. How does your rootling interact with its siblings? Do they ever cross paths? How do their relationships with their parent(s) differ? While they are all unique in their own ways, is there any common feature among them that ties them together as a family?
Found Family & Mates
Your rootling may go many places in its life. If it tries hard enough it can surely traverse the entire world. What kinds of friends and family will it make along the journey? Family is not always something you are born with, sometimes you set out and discover it on your own. Sometimes family finds you. A rootling may bond with the other animals and/or rootlings who share the same dwelling, and it may select another rootling to be its mate.
