Respect Each Other

This means treating every player with kindness. There will be absolutely NO stealing or copying designs. No stealing art, or posting without credit. Be mindful. If you know somebody will have a hard time, or feel put down by you saying something, please do not say it.

Read and Follow the Design Guide

The design guide has been carefully constructed with the intent of being as clear as possible. If you feel like something is too vague to understand, please send feedback to staff. The design rules will not be changed suddenly. They are loose with a few unifying characteristics, and we want the design process to remain as stress-free and creatively open as possible.

No Copyrighted Characters

Rootling designs may not resemble or mimic copyrighted characters or copyrighted content. 

Stay Within the World

Please keep all worldbuilding and story/character development on theme and aligned with the pre-existing rootlings worldbuilding. The world of rootlings allows for a lot of stretch with creative freedom, but it does have a few defining features that give it life. This is a medieval, fantasy version of earth with no modern technology. You may design a post-apocalyptic abandoned city that is overgrown, but please keep the time period in mind, too.

Track Your Points

You are expected to track your own lumesse points, quest, and story prompt progression. We provide pre-made spreadsheet templates for easy, automated counting and organization, but you are free to build your own, too.

Bestiary Submissions

Rootling designs must be published on the bestiary before the character becomes canon.

Prompts & Trials

Story prompts and trials are designed to encourage character development, and grant a sense of achievement. Advancements that require prompts will not be canon until the prompt is completed.

Commissions & Sales

Commissions are allowed when advertised respectfully. Selling adoptables is only permitted during guest artist sales. You must submit an application when guest artist slots open in order to sell adoptables.

NO AI

There is nowhere in the rootlings community where AI is welcome. It may not be used in rootlings artwork. All ideas, concepts, and images must be human-crafted. No AI images are allowed to be posted in the Discord. We strongly discourage its use as it is stealing from and devaluing artists across the globe. No rootlings content may be fed to AI's for training or any other use.

Consistency

For those of us in charge: Absolutely no one at any time is allowed to change or stray from the original goal and theme of the game. Rootlings as a species are to hold consistent, straightforward rules that are clearly stated in the design guide. Everyone in charge of reviews must be on the same page. If there is any confusion, it must be clarified right away in the design guide. Any additional clarifications MUST NOT conflict with or counter pre-existing guidelines. If a player's rootling meets the set requirements it should be accepted. We will not request changes if they are not needed, and we will hold all players to the same standard.
