The rootlings species is designed to change, adapt, and develop overtime according to the story their player gives them. Some of these changes are related to prompts, quests, or trials, and these do not require LP purchases to obtain. Players who are respectful of the honors system may alter their rootling character as they complete the required art prompts without submitting them, but we will need a submission to update their bestiary entry.
There are a few exceptions to this, and that's where form alterations enter the scene. Rootlings created through coronations only include two stem animals of the same ecosystem in their designs. Further down the road the player may wish to add a new animal into the mix, or to let this rootling develop folktale traits.
Adding & Removing Earthen Gifts
Any Earthen Gift, existing or imagined, can be added to or removed from your rootling's design by completing an earthen trial. Each gift will require it's own trial art, but you can complete this trial as many times as you'd like.
- Earthen Trial -
Create a piece of art in any medium that depicts your rootling interacting with the earthen gift you would like them to obtain or remove. Maybe they are discovering it for the first time, leaving something behind, or considering it a meeting with an old friend. The depiction of this trial is always decided by the player.
Adding Folktale Traits
-300 LP to add | -50 LP to remove
Folktale traits are characteristics that do not appear in nature. They can be added to your rootling whenever it has earned enough LP and you have designed the updated artwork. Folktale traits include but are not limited to
Kitsune Tails
Multiple Heads
Dragon Wings
Multiple Limbs (without a qualifying stem animal e.g. spider, octopus)
Leviathan Body (without a qualifying stem animal e.g. worm, snake)
Folktale traits that are not listed here may be submitted for design review with reference images included. Players may design their own.
Folktale traits are aqcuired at temples
Adding a Stem Animal
-180 LP per animal | stem animals cannot be removed
Adding a stem animal opens the door to new skin/coat colorations and patterns, new body structures, and more. You may add a stem animal to change markings, size and shape, and coloration. Stem animals cannot be removed once added, but their influence on the design may be significantly reduced. You may add a stem animal from anywhere in the world regardless of your rootling's origin.
Stem animal additions occur at temples.
All stem animal purchases must be reported to your rootling's LP tracker.
Simple Design Update
-100 LP per submission
To make some basic changes to your rootling's overall design without adding a stem animal, folktale trait, or adding/ removing earthen gifts. This might include changing the fur pattern, updating the color palette, drawing more from one of the existing stem animals, or aging up.
