Shakespeare Literature Circles
As a group, look "behind" each door, then choose Door 1, 2, or 3 and I will tell you which play you are going to read and discuss.
Door 1
Genre: Gritty, psychological thriller; tragedy
The play summed up in a single sentence:
The key to marriage is mutually beneficial murder.
Door 2
Genre: Magical realism; comedy
The play summed up in a single sentence:
Never upset a magician with a temper.
Door 3
Genre: Rom Com; comedy
The play summed up in a single sentence:
Your story has a few loose ends to tie up, have you tried having a twin?
Each week for 5 weeks (March 1, 8, 15, 22, April 5) you will read one act of your play and discuss in a literature circle with your group on Fridays. Here is a resource that will help you understand how to prepare for a literature circle discussion.
I strongly recommend that you view the play before you
read. Plays are meant to be watched and enjoyed in a theater. Not all the free
versions are the best, but you can watch scenes from very good productions from
the Royal Shakespeare Company and view trailers from Shakespeare’s Globe and
the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to see how different companies are adapting the
play for modern audiences.
