Counties:
Tyne and Wear (Ceremonial, Metropolitan)

Quick Trivia:
Beneath Newcastle lies multiple hidden tributary rivers of the Tyne that no longer can be seen, those being; Pandon Burn, Lam Burn (which has a tributary named Lort Burn), Swirle Burn, Skinner Burn, Denton Burn, and Elswick Burn. [4]
The River Tyne has a catchment area of 2,936 squared kilometres. [7]
The original Tyne Bridge to where the Swing Bridge is today was a Roman era bridge named after the fort of the same name, Pons Aelius, meaning Bridge of Hadrian. [8]
A stone bridge had also been present later that was named Newcastle Bridge and remained until 1721. [9]
Formerly, there were eleven ferry services prior to the Shields Ferry, the only service active today. These ran between Tynemouth and Newburn.
