The Monkton Burn is sourced close to Wardley, approximately 1.8 miles from the River Don's source in Springwell. The burn flows northward past the Fellgate METRO Station tracks and past the Monkton Stadium not long after, to where its course it set eastward. It flows through Monkton via Monkton Dene Park and Springwell Park, and flows into the River Don.
