CAS Learning Outcome:
7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Today, I realized that I had a lot of used papers accumulating in my house. I first thought of throwing all away, but when I looked at some of the papers, I realized that some parts of the papers could be still used. In my daily life, I frequently use small pieces of papers for solving math problems, checking if the ink of a pen works, etc. Therefore, I spent some time cutting papers to divide the parts where I can still use and not, so I can use useable papers easily. It took a while, but I was satisfied that I saved some papers, and I became excited to use those papers. I then realized that I can write about this on my CAS portfolio because I did an eco-friendly service by saving papers. I learned that a small task like this could not only help save the environment but also bring satisfaction that I did something good.

As ASL Club was given a chance to teach the primary students basic sign language, today, me and two of other ASL Club members participated to teach ASL, American Sign Language, to a few primary students online. As it was the first class for them, we started with alphabets.
I am one of the leaders of the ASL Club, and I have led a few meetings to learn ASL together so far, but everyone is usually quiet. As I also see in other online classes, students are usually quiet. Therefore, this time, I was afraid if we could be able to make it fun and engaging. However, there was no need to worry about that; primary students were very energetic, engaging, and even a bit too noisy that we struggled a bit to calm them down and continue with the teaching. I was glad that they seemed to enjoy our class.
I also thank my two other members that participated with me, because it would have been so hard to do all the teaching alone. We felt that we were able to teach efficiently by collaborating.
I was glad that I had this opportunity because I took a first step to spread the knowledge of ASL, language for deaf people, to even younger children that I don't usually have a contact with.

This was my second time teaching the primary students ASL. This time, me and other two members taught them about emotions. It went more smooth than I expected, probably because none of us were first timers anymore, and we knew what it would be like to work with the primary students. This time, one of the members I worked with was from the other grade level, G9, but we were still able to work well together. The primary students have learned ASL for quite a long time already with other members in our club for past several weeks, so I feel that we are really spreading our knowledge of sign language to different grade levels as well. I realized that I am better at teaching the high school peers than teaching primary students, probably because I don't have contact with primary students often. I feel that it is something I would need to improve, so I would be able to work with people of different ages.

Today, like I did for ASL in past experiences, I taught Japanese primary students about Japanese traditional desserts and meals. I taught them through doing Kahoot, quiz game with multiple choice questions where the players can compete by connecting online. I researched about Japanese traditional desserts and meals to make the quiz and for myself to review, too. I realized that I am good at making quizzes like this, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I am still not good at interacting with the younger students. However, after doing the class for primary students a few times (including the ASL ones), I felt that I am getting more used to it. This time, I also had my friend to do it with me, so I felt less nervous and had more fun.

In our school's IB Art Exhibition, we set up booth for fundraising for ASL Club to donate to deaf communities. In addition to the bows I made just as I reflected on the Creativity section of this portfolio, this time, we also ordered to make stickers. Last semester, we asked two of our members to draw a mascot for our club. We used one of their designs and ordered stickers to sell. We also took preorders of our club shirt.
We also had an activity that charges participants a bit of money for donation. The members of the club did some signs in ASL and let the participants guess the meaning of the signs. Participants that got some signs correct got candies as a prize.
Moreover, in ServICE conference I went to in January, I got to know a leader of ASL Club in ISB. We decided to exchange our merchandize and sell them at both schools. I gave them my bows and stickers, and we got their original stickers in return. This increased variety of our merchandize, and many people at my school were happy to buy merchandize I got from the leader from ISB.
