- Smoothing faces of boards up to 24" wide.
- Final, precise machining a board to a specified thickness.
- The dual drum sander removes material from the top of the material.
- Can make very precise adjustments to material thickness.
- Will not create a snipe, making it ideal for final planing passes.
- Much slower than the planer. Only used for the final pass.
- Sandpaper can get clogged over time requiring more frequent maintenance.
- Check for knots, nails or loose paint before sanding.
- Do not look into the machine while it is running.
- Always wear safety glasses when using this tool.
- Tie your hair back, tuck in loose articles of clothing and put away your earbuds.
- Turn on the dust collector whenever you use this tool. Make sure the blast gate is open
- Do not sand any boards less than 8" long.
- When done cutting, turn off the sander and wait for it to stop.
- If your board gets stuck, you can carefully use a thin push stick to guide the wood forward. Do not force it!
- Two people at a time may use this machine.
- A second person may assist by collecting finished pieces from the outfeed table.
- Don't plane boards less than 5" long.
- With the power off, set your board just under the first roller.
- Raise the table until the board touches the roller, causing it to roll when you push it in and out.
- Turn on the power and wait for the machine to reach full speed.
- Push your board into the sander.
- Feed the board along the direction of the grain.
- Make sure the board is flat on the infeed table.
- Do not put your fingers under the board. They will get pinched!
- Raise the table 1/8 turn each pass.
- Repeat until your board reaches its desired thickness.
- A: Exhaust Port: Massive amounts of sawdust will come out here if you don't use the dust collector!
- B: Top Cover and Latches: Do not touch these. If there is a problem, get a teacher!
- C: Feed Conveyor: This is the moving part that carries your material through the machine.
- D: Conveyor Tension/Tracking: Don't touch these!
- E: Table Height Adjustment: Rotate 1/8 turn clockwise to raise table each pass. Rotate counter-clockwise to lower table.
- F: Conveyor Gear Selection: Do not touch this!
- G: Conveyor Direction Selector: Do not touch this! It should always be set to "forward".
- H: Power Switch: Green turns it on. Red turns it off.
