How race entries work

• Termly you will find potential races on SPOND.

  •  See the Race Calendar for an indication of potential races and age groups.

• We ask availability early because the entry date for a race can be a 6 weeks before the event.

  • The start and end time on SPOND is not necessarily the actual arrival or end time, but we put in the a wide timeframe. 

  • Only accept if you can do anytime on the day in question.

  • It can be a competition in itself to get a space in a race. Think getting Glastonbury tickets.

• As soon as we can we will publish crews by email and on here.  

  • Changes will be documented on this site but boys involved will be informed..

• We will flag up reserves, please keep yourself available as reserves are often called upon.

  • That said, we try to enter as many boys as we can so there may be no reserves.

• Changing availability of your son near to the race can result in an entry having to be scratched if we have no reserves.

  • There are limits to the % we can change.  

    • The allowed changes are 50% of rowers, any cox and no changes in a single.

  • We have to pay for the events in advance and if we scratch we don't get the money back. 

  • Of course injuries and illness do happen but don't indicate availability unless you are sure.

• When you say your son is available you are committing for your son to race if selected 

• We will set a deadline for committing to events when we know them to give the coaches enough time to determine crews 

  • But we don't have all of these deadlines now so we may set a deadline later - and tell you when we do.

Once we know who is available...

• the coaches will make their selections and work out the boat combinations

  • Boys can and should ask why they were or weren't selected.

  • Sometime practicality are part of the selection equation, e.g. boats we can fit on the trailer.

  • Some events are local, some have a national aspect and we will only enter our top boats.

• We will publish as much information we can about the division your son is in which will give some idea of timing.

  • BUT organisers only tell us the finer details in the week before so the  look out for a really detailed email on the Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, which will be reposted here in the Next Race page.
