Ideas on how to use the core word in a naturally occurring opportunity
During mealtime, label different items (e.g., is juice, that is soup, etc.), make comments about the food (e.g. is yummy, that is good, etc.)
Read a book, point to pictures and model making comments/labeling (e.g., that is dog, this is funny, he is running, she is tall, etc.)
On a walk, label what you are seeing in real time (e.g., is bus, it is loud, it is cold, that is tree, etc.)
During daily routines, make a variety of comments (e.g., shirt is wet, that is clean, face is dirty, this is shirt, etc.)
Ideas on how to use the core word in a group activity
Have a mystery bag full of different items where you pull out an item, you ask "what is it?", and everyone has to label it and/or describe it (e.g., is a ball, is round, is big, etc.)
Show and Tell where each student shares an item. Once each item is shown, everyone can ask "what is it?". Shower can label their item and other students can make comments such as "that is cool".
