“I’VE ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT IF YOU PUT IN THE WORK, THE RESULTS WILL COME. I DON’T DO THINGS HALF-HEARTEDLY, BECAUSE I KNOW IF I DO, THEN I CAN EXPECT HALF-HEARTED RESULTS.”
-MICHAEL JORDAN
OFFSEASON EXPECTATIONS:
Offseason is always a great time to focus on building your team and player identities. It is important that we maximize our limited time that we have on the floor in order to improve every day. During the fall, we will focus on establishing our team concepts and defining player roles for the upcoming season. In the spring, we will focus most of our energy on player development and improving each players overall basketball IQ and skill set.
Players out of season have a tendency to lose their focus. Maintaining a positive reputation as a basketball player should be a priority year-round. We will have competitive tracking systems in place to continue to hold you accountable. A few reminders of what is listed below:
CHARACTER OFF OF THE COURT:
Weekly grade/behavior checks – (part of leadership program) – if I can’t count on you to take care of business in the classroom and in the community – I can’t trust you on the court – daily/weekly punishment for zeros
Social media – no negative comments about Bridgeport athletic programs, no profanity, and no inappropriate images posted on your account– all language, content, and time of posts and retweets need to be appropriate – if you retweet something, it is the same as if you wrote it
Expectations and consequences will be strictly enforced
ATHLETIC PERIOD EXPECTATIONS:
Maximize our time – expected to be on court by ready to start workout by 2:50 PM (shoes need to be tied and gear on for you to be considered on time)
Wear approved workout gear
No profanity
Expected to give your best effort, every drill, every day. Competitiveness is not an option.
You will be expected to have high energy and enthusiasm (talk and clap)
Be good teammates – encourage each other – be positive
BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL WORKOUTS
Basketball players will be allowed in gym during designated open gym times for pick-up, practices, or skill workouts – if you see guys not part of our program in the locker room or gym area get them out.
Do not be in areas that you are not supposed to be in –you need to be in locker room, gym, or weight room with a coach – if coach is not around, wait outside the locker room until they come get you.

WINNERS CHAIN:
Winners of each week will get bragging rights and be the recipient of the "Winners Chain." We will do something to incentivize being present and doing extra during the offseason.
PLAYER EXIT INTERVIEW SURVEY:
It is always important to reflect on each season and assess what went well and what we can improve. Giving honest feedback allows us to maximize our strengths and improve our weaknesses. This form will give the coaching staff and yourself some talking points for our end of season exit interview meeting.
