Message from RRF Member Dr.Moreshwar Desai about his visit to Path /Parule and Madhyachiwadi.
The function was great. Yash ended with American anthem and 'Jana Gana Mana'. I felt a lump in my throat when the students proudly displayed their accomplishments. The high school in Path where they are building a new school has done an excellent job with the money given by RRF and should serve as a pathway for other schools. Also donated a microscope in the name of Shalini and Nilkanth Desai to Parule school. Hats off to Raghunath Mama, Deepak Samant and his team.
There is a particular program The Poultry Project, where 20 students will be given a rooster and a hen for one year. This will provide money for that year's education or protein for one year. It is sponsored by RadhaRang and is an absolutely ingenious idea. If the pilot study is successful, it will be applied to the whole school. If it works, it should be adopted by local and state government. Also, the Bees project will start in September.
In Kumbhawade, I was even more happy when my kaki (who lives in Kumbhavade), was tearful and happy that Yash performed in Annasaheb Desai School where she studied and graduated from in 1974. She walked 1 mile everyday from Namaswadi to Parule. She kept looking at the photo with nostalgia.
RRF is doing an awesome job. With partners like Ameya, Deepak and Aruna, this is touching countless lives in ways we can not fathom. Aparna and I were especially impressed by efforts in Path. The practical experience based learning is a model other schools should undertake. The girls were 'chunchunit', boys were smart and were extremely proud of their work. They are growing high quality vegetables. I believe it when Deepak Samant said, "My students will never sit idle or go hungry because they have learnt skills to take it to next level".
"The journey of RadhaRang has been very exciting so far. Together, we have laid a strong foundation and exciting future awaits us. RadhaRang simply wants to hold hands with the little wonders in the rural India to make that little difference in their life journey.. To create opportunities in their life in areas of Education, Sports, Health and Entrepreneurship, unleashing their potential to make them a great human being. The Vision of RadhaRang is to have army of such selfless human beings who in turn will give back to the society. That will decide the success of the RadhaRang Movement."

Cancer Screening Camp - Ms Shubha Maudgal's report
"I am now sitting at goa airport waiting for my Bangalore flight. The last few days have been an amazing experience. Lots of ups and downs.
17 of us traveled from Mumbai on the 3rd, leaving Mumbai around 6. We found out too late that the Ac in the bus was not working properly. Most of the journey was a bit of a torture. But once we reached the flats, we could put the Ac on and everyone fell into an exhausted sleep for the last hour or so. Thankfully, Naresh Bhai had suggested a route which turned out to be longer but much more comfortable than the one originally planned.
We reached Sevangan at 8.30. The sleeping arrangements were more than adequate. The next morning brought terrible news. Our spare Gynaecologist and the ENT specialist who had decided to come separately in a car later in the day had an accident around 3am. The Gynaec needed stitches, she was lucky her eye was not affected. Fortunately some good Samaritans got them out of the car and called an ambulance and she was being attended at Nagwekar hospital in Kankawli.
The surgeon, Dr. Satyendra Mehra, agreed to take over the ENT exam and since there were not many men, we managed. The Gynaec, Dr. Rachana Mehra, was just amazing. The organizers had organised a room with a partition so that two women could be seen in the same room. She moved between the two and managed to screen all 150 women. The physician, Dr. Veena Borkar, too contributed well beyond the original expectation.
Babu kaka, who was like a rock working with us, spoke to an ENT doctor in Kudal and he agreed to come at 12. So the surgeon had some respite in the afternoon. Also there were more men who needed to be tested.
Equally important, we got a chance to involve a local doctor who will become a resource in the future. His wife is a Gynecologist. He visits Malvan once a week and I have suggested he could start a cancer screening clinic similar to the one we do. He seemed agreeable.
The injured ladies decided to join us and arrived that afternoon. They rested that day and insisted on joining the camp for a while on the second day. It was very hot. Apparently this is the time when people from the really economically disadvantaged groups go to the market to sell vegetables. The Monday market is especially popular. As a result we got 28 less than the targeted 200 on day 1. However, the news went out that this camp was worth attending, not just "do Aah and move on" as someone described an earlier camp. So we got an extra 30 on the third day and so finished with the desired number. Dr. Dighe suggested we do the camp in November when the poorer people will be free. And the weather will be better.
We had a large number of people needing follow up. While the surgeon thought most of the lumps would turn out to be fibroadenomas, a few were very suspicious. We can do these follow up tests at our clinic in Mumbai free of charge. But I happened to meet Dr. Parulekar, Suhas vahini's sister's son in law. He suggested approaching SRC centre at Kudal who have the mammography and ultrasound facilities needed. Ladies are more likely to go there than take 2-3 days away from their families to go to Mumbai. Over the phone the clinic told Dr. Parulekar that they charge Rs. 1500 for mammo and Rs. 600 for sono. But he said he would try to contact Dr. Redkar and see if he can get all the follow up testing done at a concessional rate. I have left the Rs. 25,000 donated by RadhaRang Foundation with Mr. Acharekar, which would be about a third of the cost if they do not give us a concession, and asked him to ensure the follow up is completed. Hopefully the lab will agree to do the tests under the amount donated otherwise participants should pay the balance from their pockets.
Hats off to the organizers. They had registered the participants well ahead of time, given them appointments so that no one had to wait. Mr. Acharekar, Babu Kaka should be given a special mention. Mr. Prabhu, Samant were also always available. Our cook Reshma took special care of us and converted what could have been seen as an uncomfortable time into a joyful one. My colleagues are of course champs. I am so happy to be a part of CPAA.
The food was exquisite. Every day a special menu was produced. This extra care helped raise spirits and ensured that everyone was happy. We also ensured that they had a chance to do some sightseeing and everyone bought mangoes to take back. All in all it was a great experience. It is a spectacular site. We spent an hour on the beach on day 2. Everyone I met spoke affectionately and respectfully of you all. This obviously went a long way in giving our camp an initial authenticity while later, word of mouth converted into footfalls on the ground.
Thank you so much for helping us make this happen. I feel proud to be part of this amazing family. I have no words to express my regards adequately."
Excerpt from Dr. Amit P. Sarnaik's email regarding 2015 activities for RadhaRang Foundation
"As the year comes to end, we look back at our mission which is now 6 years old and stronger than ever. This was a busy year with lot of activities made possible by our family with their genuine interest and generosity. The beginning of year marked the launch of virtual classroom, brainchild of Dr. Ashok Sarnaik and Dr. Sharad Sarnaik, in Malvan Topiwala High School and led to our family congregating there, reflecting on the legacy of our grandparents and great-grandparents for some.
Let us keep this going as before. Talks are on for registering RRF to make it tax free entity eventually. At this time the donations are still not deductible.
We have had great local support from Dr Dighe who I would like to thank on behalf of RRF for valuable input. Vilas Sarnaik has been a very active volunteer and has put in lot of hard work to ensure that our contributions reach the right people.
Santosh Sarnaik has been the flagbearer of our mission and has been involved in active communication at all times. Raghunath P. Sarnaik (Nanakaka) has provided the huge presence behind the scenes and some of the activities would not have been possible, if not for his constant communication and perseverance.
Also special congratulations to the juniors for taking on the Khanoli school bench project.
Its amazing how much can be achieved by team effort of family and friends
Lets make 2016 even bigger.
Email Update from Dr Amit Sarnaik
Dear Family and Friends,
It is with great pleasure that I would like to let you know that our fund drive for Radharang activities for 2014 was great success. We collected a tidy sum of $ 1701.00 which should amount to approximately Rs. 1 lac which will be in addition to the amount that will be contributed by our family in India. I would like to thank the following donors and participants for their generosity.
Suhas and Sudhir Avasare
Sulekha and Surendra Avasare
Ina and Joe Fernandez/ Berkowski
Veena and Debashish Bhattacharya
Seema and Girish Naik
Aparna and Aditya Khurjekar
Sonali and Subodh Parulekar
Deepa and Sid Sangal
Shawn and Amod Sarnaik
Syana and Ajit Sarnaik
Radhika and Amit Sarnaik
Preeti and Sanjay Sarnaik
Tushar Sarnaik
Sharada and Ashok Sarnaik
Leena and Raghunath Sarnaik
As far as I know, Anagha Desai, Anjali Pradhan, Kishor Sarnaik, Santosh Sarnaik, Sucheta Khanolkar, Shubha Maudgal, Deepak Tirodker will be joining our efforts as in the past.
If you still have the original email for this year's drive, you will note that our contributions are being utilized for worthy causes and we have definitely gotten more organized and structured with every passing year. Due to efforts of Nanakaka (Raghunath Sarnaik) we have identified several key locals who are excited and willing to help. Vilas Sarnaik has been one of them, who has been a selfless volunteer over the past couple years. Our network seems to be getting bigger and has now gone on to involve Malgaon and beyond.
Our monetary contribution is by no means of huge proportions, but, believe me, it is bound to be life changing for that one child who may go on to graduate high school and hopefully bigger and better things, than dropping out of school in lower grade and having no chance at upliftment of self or family. That will be a huge success for us.
With all this I would like to re-emphasize the need to continue the effort.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind some of our family and friends who did not get chance to contribute this year, that this is a very worthy cause which you will feel happy and proud to be part of. I think we should consider ourselves lucky to have such a great family presence here in US and what better way than this to support this endeavor which helps us connect to our roots. It is still not late this year to contribute.
You could mail your check to Ashok Kaka at 19886 Fairway Drive, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236 before he leaves to India on Feb 4th and plans to visit Malgaon with Santosh, to oversee our activities and disburse funds. Please make the check payable to Ashok Sarnaik
I would also like some participation from some of our 2nd generation family and friends here in US and in India, and love to get their input and ideas
Thanks again for your contributions and helping to nurture and sustain Radharang year after year
Sincerely
Amit Sarnaik
Email update by Mr Ravindra (Santosh) Sarnaik
Hi all the members of the RadhaRang Foundation family tree,
I visited Malvan and Malgaon along with Ashokkaka and Sharadakaki last month for the RadhRang Foundation activities. Like every year, we had a grand time. This year we had a record collection of Rs.152800/--. Following page has the statement of Sources and Application of funds for the year 2014.
This year we have formed a committee of local people under the leadership of Dr.Dighe and will include Suresh Thakur, Vilas Sarnaik and Sanju Joshi. They will monitor the activities of RadhaRang Foundation and guide us in future.
I take this opportunity to congratulate all the members of The RadhaRang Foundation as our activities are well received in the area and will go a long way inmaking that little difference in the lives of the people in the Sindhudurg District. I request all to go through these activities and come up with more ideas in future that will help in our mission to create opportunities in the lives of not so fortunate people.
Love and regards,
Santosh
Email update from Mr. Raghunath Sarnaik
July 8, 2013
Dear RadhaRang Foundation Members,
I have some exciting news to share with you. Collaborating with selfless local volunteers, the RadhaRang Foundation (RRF) is making a big difference in the lives of young promising students in Konkan. In February 2013, Maharashtra Shikshak Samiti (Teachers Association) put forth a proposal to RRF to teach and prepare 4th and 7th grade students in the Sindhudurg Region of Maharashtra for the demanding but prestigious Maharashtra State Government examination. Most children from Sindhudurg area do not appear for this examination because of lack of guidance and preparation. Their parents can’t afford private tuitions. Mr. Vilas Sarnaik, a dedicated teacher, a member of RRF, and a product of the Malgaon New English High school, led the effort on behalf of the Teachers Association. They met with Ashok and Santosh in January 2013 and received the necessary funding from RRF for this project. The funds were utilized mainly for paying for the expenses associated with preparation of study materials and to cover the cost of the mock examinations. Vilas and colleagues worked tirelessly in addition to their daily grind and received no additional compensation. Response from the students and parents was overwhelmingly positive. Scores of students attended these intense sessions on a regular basis to prepare for these State administered 4 th and 7th grade examinations. These sessions were free to the students; their only requirement was hard work and rigorous effort. At regular intervals trial exams were conducted, the teachers corrected the answers and provided further guidance.
More than 2000 students appeared for these examinations in March. Success rate was sparkling with 35 students appearing in the merit list exceeding all expectations. This was truly a team effort from the students, teachers and the parents. Successful students were recognized with prizes at a ceremony held in Katta, a village close to Malgaon. Mr. Nagesh Sarnaik presided at the ceremony at which 20 additional needy students were each given Rs. 1000/- as financial aid. Parents, school teachers and the Regional Maharashtra State Association thanked Mr. Vilas Sarnaik, the teachers and RadhaRang Foundation for their support. According to Vilas, this project has created much enthusiasm in the Sindhudurg area with everyone expressing the desire to continue for the next year.
Vilas would like to convey his “special love and lots of thanks to RadhaRang Foundation members”.
Love and affection,
Raghunath
Email update from Dr Ashok Sarnaik
Dear all,
Raghunath has asked me to distribute the following message to RRF members. I would add that my involvement in RRF has been especially gratifying to me at the very core which is emotionally and spiritually most satisfying. Thanks to many of you who have actively supported numerous RRF activities. These include scholarships, computer, nutrition program, sports events and physical fitness, toys and educational materials for children, infant formula, health fair, and now giving the students much needed preparation to succeed academically and compete with students who are much more privileged in terms of resources.
Our work is just beginning. This is team work where everyone counts. At the risk of quoting the old cliché, “there is no I in TEAM”. We are seriously looking to build a Library and a Computer center in Malgaon. But it may be wise for us to spread our efforts more widely so that we don’t get hampered by regional politics in a tiny village. We look forward to ideas and suggestions.
Ashok
Email update from Mr. Santosh Sarnaik
Dear Ashok kaka,
I am very happy that 35 students from Malgaon Panchakroshi are selected for Govt Scholarship. This is indirect financial help to them from RadhaRang Foundation. All these deserving students (Doctors, Engineers, Accountants,Lawyers etc. of future) will give back to the society much more than what they have received. They will in turn be the inspiration for future generations. Heartiest congratulations to RadhaRang Foundation and all its members.
As you said, it's just the beginning. The great Ganga river begins with a small stream in Gangotri. We all know what happens next. Similarly, RadhaRang Foundation is just born. Like a small kid, who takes first few steps, holding the fingertips of his mother, RadhaRang is also learning to walk, holding the fingertips of Nanakaka and Ashok kaka and yes with the blessings of all our seniors who are not with us. Like the great Ganges river, I am already dreaming great things for RadhaRang Foundation.
Love and regards
Santosh

Dear kaka,
In January we arranged an examination for std.4th and 7th students. It was arranged jointly by RadhaRang Foundation and Maharashtra Shikshak Samiti. Parents and students gave large response for this exam. More than 2000 students appeared for this exam. We gave idea to students about how to solve final exams paper. The parents and students were happy with this exam. We check the question papers and highlight the merit list of students. We give them gifts in ceremony which held in KATTA. Mr. Nagesh V. Sarnaik was present there as a representative of RADHARANG FOUNDATION.
In march the final exam was held by Maharashtra Govt. Students took this exam and passed with good marks better than last year. There were 35 students who came in merit list of our districts and it all happened because of our practice exam. So all parents, students, teachers and Maharashtra Rajya Shikshak Samiti were very grateful and requested another exam for this year.
We also gave Rs 1000 to 20 needy students. It is also held in KATTA. Mr. Nagesh Sarnaik distributed the money to the needy students.
Shortly I'll Send you a file of our examination reports and photographs of needy children donations ceremony.
Love to all.
Special love and lots of thanks to all members of RADHA RANG FOUNDATION

Email update from Mr. Santosh Sarnaik
This year I had the opportunity to visit Malgaon with Ashok kaka and Sharada kaki. We had a great time together. The RadhaRang has already become a household name in Malgaon. We have a lovely family and everyone deserves the credit for making it happen. As Ashokkaka said our ancestors will be very proud of us. We have begun well and RadhaRang Foundation is ready to sprint for generations to come. We look forward to make difference in the lives of all those who are not so lucky to get opportunities. The contribution is small but it is a good start to a journey.
This year the best activity was the Health Camp at the New English School Malgaon. Right from the 3 months baby to old people in their 80s took advantage of the camp. Dr. Harish Parulekar and Dr Bhat took time off from their busy schedule to conduct the camp. They did not charge any fees and also distributed the sample medicines to the needy people. I salute these doctors for their selfless efforts.
The printer and the Speaker System given by us will be of great help to the school. I am pleased to find the computer donated by us in good condition. The school has conducted training programs for the children and has made good use of the computer. This year too, Murlidhar kaka did a great job of selecting the books for the donation to the library.
I feel now we must look beyond the NEW English School, Malgaon. and help other institutions/people in the area. There is other school in Malgaon for pre-primary and primary children where Ashok kaka distributed toys for the children. Although Principal Khot is a good person, the other members of the New English School management committee seem politically motivated and are not necessary thinking of the welfare of the village or the children of Malgaon. Ashok kaka is having many good plans but the response from the school is not as per expectation. We will require someone in the area who can guide us. May be Dr.Dighe (Ashok kaka's batch mate) will be of help. He does many activities for RSS in the area.
I like to thank each and every member of our family-tree for their contribution to make this journey like a sweet dream. Finally thank you and Leenakaki for showing us the way. We take inspiration from all our seniors and require their blessings. I know it’s always with us.
Love and regards
Santosh
The Malgaon Report by Dr Ashok Sarnaik
Raghunath asked me to write about the Malgaon trip. The idea is to inform people who made this project possible and hopefully inspire the younger generation to step forward and participate actively and enthusiastically.
The New English School Malgaon
The high school has been the major focus so far for the RadhaRang Foundation. It is located near Malgaon and Bagayat. It serves 5 regions (Panchakroshi) which are Verali, Masade, Malgaon, Bhogalewadi, Khervand, and Chaphekhol. In the year 2011-12, there were 179 students in grades 5 through 10. In the SSC examination held in March 2011, 30 out of 31 students passed. In 2010, the result was 100%. Omkar Ravindra Jadhav scored 94.18% and stood 1st in Masura Center. This is a remarkble accomplishement for the schhol which was closed down in the 80's because the SSC result had plummeted to 0%. I found the teachers to be dedicated and involved. The students were very disciplined (at least in front of us) but also appropriately mischievous. However, they (especially the boys) seemed somewhat subdued infront of visitors. Girls appeared to be bolder. The facility stands in a spacious compound which can readily accept a cricket ground, running track and several other buildings. Trees would be most welcome as it is bound to get very hot in summer.
Santosh, Sharada and I visited the school on 23rd February 2012. Program started with the customary prayer and national anthem and a pledge of allegiance. All students participated in this activity. Towards the end there was a question answer session about general knowledge. Later, students from grades 5 through 9 gathered in a hall that serves as a laboratory, gym, and computer room. They sat on the floor, tightly packed but smiling. We were greeted with songs and flowers. Program started with Saraswati prayer and then introductions and speeches. It was clear that the sudents were patient, polite but also somewhat restless. I spoke in Marathi and told them the story of Erik Husfeldt. When they realized that one of the children he saved was me, there was a spontaneous applause. I told them about gratitude and never forgetting their roots. On behalf of RadhaRang Foundation, we accepted Mr. Khot's proposal of loud speaker set and gave them the necessary funds. We also gave 23 scholarships to needy children. Mr. Suresh Thakur and several other volunteers represented Saane Guruji Kathamala (story telling, oration). We gave them Rs. 22,000 to start oration competition in Sindhudurga district in the name of Sadashiv (Baburao) Hari Tirodker. Also a printer was donated in the name of Sadashiv (Baburao) and Snehalata (Prematai) Tirodker. All gifts were made under the aegis of RadhaRang Foundation although different people contributed for different items. All these gifts were gratefully and enthusiastically accepted.
We broke the school visit to go to a nearby elementary school, and came back for lunch. It was interesting to see that all children and teachers stood in the same line and received food. The food is supplied by Maharashtra goverment to ensure that the children get at least one nutritious meal a day. We ate the same food. A few girls joined in to serve us and it was a lot of fun.
The school had received a B grade in 2010 but received a D grade in 2011. Schools are graded according to various criteria based on facility and programs. These criteria change from year to year and that is the reason for the downgrade. A, B, C, and D are passing grades. Malgaon School was downgraded because of lack of a separate computer/library facility, inadequate toilets, and absence of disaster plan. It seems that everything except computer/library facility can be fixed with little or no financial cost. The computer/Library/Office building will be an independent structure that will be a total of 900 sq feet with capacity to build a second floor in future. Although a Headmaster's cabin was suggested, I do not believe that is a priority at this time. An office space for teachers which could double up as a room for a visiting dignitory such as Tendulkar or Achrekar (a cricket coach). Shashi has suggested Vinod Sharma the Railways coach as a distinct possibility. It would also be a reasonable place for one of us to stay if we so choose. In any event, a facility of about 900 sq feet is sorely needed. I will talk about this a little bit later in the report.
We conducted a health camp at the school. Dr. Harish Parulekar, a pediatrician from Malvan and Dr. Sanjay Khot, a General Practitioner from Malgaon examined close to 85 children and adults for various complaints. The doctors gave their time from a very busy practice and they did it for free even bringing free medicines. We gave various formula preparations, protein concentrates and medicines given by Shawn to Dr. Parulekar to distribute to patients according to their needs.
Sharada and I returned the next day for two reasons: 1) To discuss the proposal for the 900 sq feet building for Computer center/Library/Office and 2) To give farewell wishes to the 10th grade students on their final day of school as they left to prepare for the final SSC exam. We were very disappointed to note that the Sanchalaks (Board of Trustees) did not come for the meeting. Excuse was made that they were busy with a local Jatra (festival) preparations. This was highly unsatisfactory since no decision or proposal can be made without the approval of Sanchalaks. I guess that is how it works there. I did not receive any proposal or estimate from them. Also, I told them that since this is a big ticket item, we will finance it only if we get a tax exempt status. I have checked on this. While it is not difficult to get a tax exempt status for an organization within United States, any foreign aid is greatly scrutinized. We will need some documents from Malgaon New English School to help us get that status here. It is a fairly involved process that requires a great deal of information about the goals and mission, government sponsorship etc. I have asked Mr. Sudarshan Khot (Principal) and Mr. Uday Joshi (a young, enthusiastic and energetic teacher) to provide this information. My previous desire to get a Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) clearance is unattainable and we will not pursue it. A lot therefore depends on the Sanchalaks, the Principal, and the Teachers of New English School Malgaon if we were to escalate our efforts beyond what we are doing at present.
Malgaon Primary School
Santosh, Sharada and I visited the Malgaon Primary School. This was a real pleasure. We met with the Aanganwadi (KG) class. Children were nicely sitting in a semicircle with their slates infront. The youngest was a 3 year old and the oldest 5. When we entered the room, they all stood up and greeted us. We sat down with them and then each one stood up and introduced himself/herself. It was all very cute. In the beginning they looked somewhat worried but then we distributed toys that Xavier had selected for them. They were very happy and smiling. This is a school where Santosh, Sharada and I feel we should extend our efforts in future. The school teaches up to 4th grade and also has a spacious compond.
Key people to collaborate
Some are obvious and some I met for the first time. It is impossible to name all of them so if I leave some out, it is entirely unintentional. Following are some of them and NOT in order of importance. They are all important in their own way.
Dr. Harish Parulekar and his wife Renuka Parulekar. I am so happy we met them. Renuka is Suhas' sisters daughter. She is an architect and she has agrred to help us design the Malgaon Computer/Libray/Office facility. Renuka has designed many commercial as well as private buildings in Konkan area. She has also told me the approximate price per sq ft. Dr. Harish Parulekar is a pediatrician who has practiced in in Malvan for 10 years. He is excellent clinician and very dedicated to his patients. He has built a hospital. He has been very helpful. He came all the way to Malgaon and conducted the health camp free of charge. He knows the health care needs of the region. Sudhir will have their contact info.
Dr. Sanjay Khot. He is a General Practitioner in Malgaon and runs a very busy practice. Very helpful in coming and running the health camp.
Mrs. Fatima Johnson Rodrigues-Britto. We met this gem of a person entirely by accident. We decided to take a walk through Anant Shivaji Desai High School (Aba's school) in Malvan. It was a Sunday morning and the school was closed except a few students in one class room reciting Shlokas. Then this lady came from one of the rooms, I casually asked her if this was a Sunday Sanskrit class. She said the class was for remediation of children who were falling behind in their studies. I asked her what was her role in the school and she said she was the Vice Principal and teaches Hindi. When I told her that my father matriculated in the inauguaral year of the school a 100 years ago, she was excited. She took us to her office and spoke about the school. She invited us to stay with her family. When it was time for us to leave she asked for our blessings and later brought us cashews and sweets to Sevangan where we were staying. This lady is genuine and totally dedicated. She came to school on Sunday morning to make sure that children in need of remediation were attending their classes. She had no expectations of us. If we were to expand our activities to Malvan High School, she would be a great asset. Her mobile # 9420822708 and 9422584863. The principal is Shankarrao Dadasaheb Patil (9422585960). Anant Shivaji Desai High school celebrated its centenary last year, its # 02365252058.
Nagesh Sarnaik and family. These are the closest Sarnaiks to us. They are very hospitable. We always go to visit and last year they put us up at the house next door for one night. Our Kooldevata Bhavanidevi is at Nagesh's house. Nagesh is influential in the community and is on the Malgaon school board. His brother Gopal is very affectionate and knowledgeable in Vanshaval (family tree). Nagesh's wife is Neeta and Gopal's wife is Geeta. They both are very loving and very hospitable.
Sandeep Desai. Sometimes important people come to you in unexpected roles. When we were returning from Malvan to Goa airport, the driver of the car turned out to be this influential property owner. He owns considerable property in the area and only drives as a means of meeting people. Actually, this was another person's car that he was requested to drive. When we got talking, it turned out that Sandeep is very knowledgeable and influential in the area. He is involved in Anant Shivaji Desai High School and various social causes. He invited us to stay with him the next time we come to Malvan. He runs a large mango business and employs 20 people. He also turned out to be a marathon runner. When he heard about Sharada's athletic prowess, he was immediately impressed and volunteered to stage track and field competition in Malvan inviting neighboring districts. He suggested Malvan to Ozer route for a 5K run. His driving was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with him. He would be a good person to know. Also, he will be great if one needs transportation, a problem in Konkan area. His phone # 9422873236, 9764773236. I have asked Santosh to stay in touch with him. His address is: Somvar Peth Malvan, Taluka Malvan, Jhilla Sindhudurg, India 416606.
Mr. Dewoolkar. I can't say enough about this man. He has lived a life of a saint with practical application. He is completely selfless. Practically blind and quite frail, he comes to Sevangan every day and manages to answer the phone. He is the spiritual leader of not only Sevangan but also nearby communities. He will work with Malgaon people to get them going and set strict timetable and an action plan. I revere him for he does for others with no expectations. A true karmayogi.
Dr. Subhash Dighe. He was classmate of mine and Sharada's in Grant Medical College. He first went to Achra straight out of medical school and practiced there for two years. He eliminated deaths from snakebites and neonatal tetanus. He has practiced in Malvan for almost 40 years and has recently retired. He is revered in the community as a selfless doctor who will treat anyone regardless of their ability to pay. He is involved in RSS and has visited many underprivileged areas throughout the country. He would be a great asset to us in community health education and talking to youngsters about physical fitness and discipline.
Mr. Sudarshan Khot. He is the principal of New English School Malgaon. He commands respect and knows school needs. He is very appreciative of RadhaRang Foundation efforts.
Mr. Uday Joshi. I like him a lot. A teacher at New English School Malgaon. He has great energy, enthusiasm and clarity of thoughts. He is a leader and he knows how to work with people. Very, very helpful. His wife is a physician. He is headed for a leadership role.
Mr. Vilas Sarnaik. I like him a lot too. Very active and energetic. He is working on his masters and perhaps later a Ph.D. in education. Socially conscious. A great organizer. Very involved in education of students throughout Sindhudurg district. He is writing a book on Malgaon at my request. He is our most reliable contact person. Another potential leader for the future.
I also met two interesting and helpful persons. Pradeep Gaonkar a riksha driver (from Malvan to Malgaon) was very entertaining and informative. He has offered to help in the transportation area. His mobile # 9923570196. The other one is Rajan Tandel of Deobaag who took us on a boat ride from Mobar beach to Bhogwa. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. If anyone wants to take that ride, look him up at 9765373735.
Future Direction for RadhaRang Foundation
What we are doing currently is clearly having a significant and positive impact. It is also a rewarding feeling for us as well as a great lesson for the youngsters. It is consistent with what Aba and Aka taught us as far as helping those less fortunate. However, we need to have younger generation getting more involved in regularly visiting Malgaon and surrounding areas. Sharada and I can go as much as we can but it is getting more and more physically punishing for me. I don't know how long I will be able to continue to visit Konkan. Santosh has been a great asset but others need to join. We need someone from India AND someone from USA to go there at least on an yearly basis. Again, this is not just a Sarnaik operation. We are a formidable foundation if we all work as a team.
If we want to expand our efforts, we need to raise even more money. A tax exempt status would be very helpful for donation of larger amounts. I think Seema would be very helpful from the Indian side in getting the necessary paperwork and supporting documents. As far as from USA side, it wouldn't matter which State RadhaRang gets registered as a tax exempt foundation. The key is that we need to be approved for specific activities that are of interest to us. Here again, people from Malgaon have to be responsive in providing the necessary information.
If you have any suggestions, advice or comments, please feel free to respond. Also, if I have omitted someone from the list, please forward this message to them.
Thank you and God bless you,
Ashok P. Sarnaik

RADHARANG FOUNDATION IS BORN AND RUNNING
"The first function of Radharang Foundation at Malgaon was a grand success. We enjoyed the trip and had some memorable moments. We stayed one night at Malgaon and getting up to the sunrise of Malgaon was a great experience which we will cherish for a long time. Nagesh Sarnaik and his family received us very well. We could see how happy they were to welcome us. Also it was first time we were together with Ashokkaka and Sharadakaki. They are such a lovely couple and we had lots of fun and memorable moments.
The function was arranged at New English School Malgaon. Mr Parab has done a good job as the computer is of latest configuration with 2GB RAM, 140 GB Harddisk, with Windows XP operating system and speakers and Multimedia installed. I have told Mr Joshi ( the school computer teacher) to install anti virus software. We also discussed about the computer lab with 8 computers netwoked and run on solar energy. If it happens, it will be first of its kind in the region and will receive a lot of publicity and grants from Govt.
The main function was arranged at 9th std classroom along with school children and some VIPs of Malgaon. Many people gave speeches but most impressive was that of Ashok Kaka. He told the students to always be proud of their parents and never forget their roots, however big they become in future. I was also impressed by the school Principal Mr.Khot. He has taken lots of pain for the cause of the school and looks a selfless person. The SSC result of the school, which was 0% in1989, is now 100% in 2010. We also discussed the problems faced by the school and their requirements. We also donated one cycle to the school."
I think we must open an account of Radharang Foundation at Malvan with Internet Banking facility, so that the funds can be transferred to this account online from USA as well as India. We can also enquire the balance online and also transfer the funds to Malgaon School or any other institution.
The RADHARANG FOUNDATION is born and is running and will reach great heights in years /decades /centuries to come. Heartiest Congratulations to you and all our family tree to make it happen. Last but very important. Everyone in Malgaon was asking about Mr. RAGHUNATH SARNAIK. They hoped to meet him (take darshan in their words) at least once in their lifetime. So, for the next function, you have to make it to Malgaon.
Love and regards
Santosh
