The UNDERLANDSCAPE project is pleased to invite scholars and researchers to submit abstracts for oral presentations or posters that explore the diverse and multifaceted aspects of underground environments. We are committed to fostering a wide range of perspectives, methodologies, and critical engagement with the study of subterranean spaces. Our goal is to bring together experts from various disciplines to share their insights on topics spanning from prehistory to the present day.
We welcome abstracts on topics including, but not limited to:
Multicultural and multidisciplinary models of archaeological and historical research in mountainous regions.
Examination of underground settlements within their natural environmental context and their connections to external settlements, viewed through the lens of environmental archaeology. This includes the reconstruction of ancient environments using archaeological and paleobotanical research.
Development of a protocol for documenting and analyzing rock and/or underground structures, employing advanced methods and technologies such as:
3D aerial surveys of sites
Photogrammetric modeling of cave interiors
Analysis of geological materials
Study of carved or painted surfaces
Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)
Analysis of vegetation and pollen in both internal and external environments
Creation of a digital system to organize the data collected from landscape surveys.
Communication of the analytical protocols and findings to both the scientific community and a broader, non-specialist audience.
Consideration of rock settlements as both tangible and intangible heritage, emphasizing the importance of their conservation and enhancement within their natural and historical landscapes.
