Using LoC Digital Media Collections- Documentaries, Radio, and Music to Develop Listening and Speaking

$Dr. Aníbal Muñoz Claudio is a Full Professor in the English Department at the University of Puerto Rico, in Humacao. He is also an adjunct professor in the TESL Graduate Program (College of Education) at UPR-Río Piedras. Throughout 35 years of ESL teaching in PR, he has moved forward the topics of culturally-relevant literature and bilingualism for the public school system. He has published 5 novels; 3 anthologies; many peer-reviewed articles; numerous proposals on bilingualism, and newspaper columns related to ESL teaching practices and education in general. His trajectory of leadership and academic positions include: English Program Director for the Department of Education of Puerto Rico; PRTESOL President (in 2018); Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at UPRH; Teacher Trainer; Practice Teaching Supervisor; Doctoral Dissertations Committee Member; Translator; Program Coordinator; UPR Senator; Writer; Columnist; Editor;Public-school Teacher; Retired Officer (and veteran) from USA Armed Forces. Dr. Muñoz has presented internationally in Perú, Honduras, Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, and Dominican Republic. One of his latest books (published in 2020) is titled: Del fracaso al éxito: El bilingüismo en la educación pública de Puerto Rico. Among his hobbies, he loves listening to music, traveling, and taking care of his precious collection. Above all, he has been a proud husband and a father for 30+ years.$

This workshop is designed to provide participants with access to primary sources in the Library of Congress Digital Collections: Documentaries, Music, and Radio for the creation of lesson plans and materials that help develop ESL listening and speaking competencies and researching skills.
