Pac-Man World 2 is 3D platformer that is a predecessor to Pac-Man World on the PS1. It released on PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox in 2002, then later on PC in 2004.
There are a total of 6 Worlds each containing a boss fight and 3 main-game levels, except World 1 which has 4 levels. The game also contains a total of 189 Tokens, 5 unlockable arcade games and a concept art gallery. Tokens are optional collectables that unlock content after reaching a certain criteria and are not required to beat the game.
Pac-Man's health bar and life counter can be found at the top left corner of the screen.
You start with 5 lives when you begin a new game. If you finish a level with 4 lives or under, your lives reset to 5 (This doesn't apply to PS2 1.0).
When Pac-Man takes damage, it takes one health wedge away from the health bar. You can take 3 hits until you lose a life with the exception of some instant kills (lava, falling too far, poisonous water in World 6, etc.). If you lose all of your lives and get a Game Over, you go back to the start of the level and your lives reset to 5.
Health wedges can be found to restore Pac-Man's health. Pac-Man's health is NOT carried over, you begin with full health each level.

One of the key factors of achieving the fastest time in this game is movement optimization. This means you want to try utilizing Rev-Rolls, Rev-Jumps, Terrain Boosted Rev-Rolls and Chrome Ball Boosts as much as possible.
Rev-Rolls are the main tech of movement that is used throughout the majority of a speedrun.
