EMail to volunteers

Dear ........,

Thanks for agreeing to help with the leafleting tomorrow evening, Monday, 14 October (If you have also agreed to do other early evening leafleting outside tube stations later this week or next week, I will be sending an almost identical email to you regarding your next shift, normally just one or two days beforehand).

I would be extremely grateful if you could confirm that you have received this email

As you know, we have less than a week until the big pro People's Vote anti-no-deal-Brexit demonstration on Saturday, 19 October.

The last one had 1 million people on it. Obviously it is politically very important that this time we get substantially more.

As discussed, I would be very grateful if you could give the leaflets out between around 5:30 PM (or 6 PM) and 7:00 PM (or, if possible, 7:30 PM) outside .......... station.

As you know, we are not allowed to leaflet inside the station – only outside. It is also very important that we do not blockvstation exits in any way – so it's usually best to do the leafleting on the pavement 5-10 metres downstream (and, for safety reasons, not too near the curb or steps). Outside a small number of stations, Transport for London (TfL) technically owns some of the adjacent land. So, in the very unlikely event that a London Underground official asks you to move (because you are technically on their property), please just apologise and move to the nearest stretch of pavement, adjacent to a public road (usually just a few metres away).

So that people know where you're coming from, you could say or shout something like 'Say no to Brexit. Join us on the march'. Of course always try to convey enthusiasm, smile and look commuters straight in the eye.

If you have your 'Say no thanks to Brexit' lapel stickers, please wear one, or preferably two, of them – as they also tell people who you are. That has the very useful effect of attracting remain supporters and not attracting leavers (which is important because the leaflets are obviously aimed at remainers).

It is possible that there may be other .... for Europe volunteers leafleting at the station at the same time that you are. If that is the case, please liaise with them – so that one person covers, for instance, the left flow out of the station, while you cover the right flow (or vice versa).

We often find that leafleting outside tube stations is an excellent way of recruiting new volunteers – so if anybody voices particular support for what you are doing, please please ask them whether they would like to be on our email mailing list (to keep them informed about what we are doing) and also whether they would be prepared to help with the campaign in any way (leafleting, street stalls, social media, etc). If they say yes, please ask them to write down (everything in BLOCK CAPITALS) their name, email address, telephone numbers and postcode.

In case anybody is keen to take part in the campaign, you will need a pen, a piece of paper and either a clipboard (or a piece of cardboard).

On average, for each leafleting session you will need between 3 and 4 cms of leaflets. If you haven't yet collected leaflets from me (or if you need more), please come to my house in ....... to collect them (address below) - or ask me to arrange for them to be delivered to you.

I would also be very grateful if you could tell all your friends by email or over social media about the 19 October demonstration. Please also ask them to, if possible, forward the information to all their friends. The march is taking place at a particularly crucial time.

Once again many thanks for all your help,

If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to telephone me. If it is pouring with rain when you are meant to be doing your leafleting, please divert to ..... station where there is a small external covered area where you won't get drenched.

As I mentioned above, I would be extremely grateful if you could confirm that you have received this email.

Many thanks,

Best wishes and good luck,

........
