What is a Stingfly?
Stingflies are solitary insects similar to butterflies, but with wasp-like stingers and venom that causes swelling and itchy rashes. However their venom can also be used to make medicines to treat Dry-Eyes Colds, and their wings are often inspiration for fancy outfits and jewelry!
Stingflies hunt other bugs and only live for about a year, laying eggs in fall and dying shortly after when winter starts.
Stingfly cocoons are shiny and golden colored, and are sometimes used to make a type of spice when the hard outer shell is ground up after the Stingfly emerges in the middle of Summer.
The name of the spice made from Stingfly cocoons is called "Flyway" and tastes savory with hints of whatever vegetation the Stingfly caterpillar ate before pupating.
Baby Stingflies are called Caterpillars, and hatch at the start of spring. They eat plant-life constantly for a few months before pupating.
While the caterpillars may have stingers, they do not have any venom yet and instead use their bright colors to ward off predators.
However these caterpillars can be cooked for a quick street-market snack!
