What is a Kalma?
Kalmas are a llama-like creature with fluffy wool, four ears, and two clawed toes on each foot to help them climb in the Avonese mountains. They can be found in the wild and as tamed livestock.
Wild Kalmas live in herds and usually have grey or brown wool, while tamed Kalmas have a higher variety of colors available to them. While they may have long tails, their actual tails are much shorter and they use their tail wool to help keep their faces warm during the winter while they sleep.
A population of Kalmas were tamed during the initial settling of Avo by a group of Krinvipers that found out they could shave Kalmas during the Spring and use their wool to make clothing and blankets.
Kalmas are multi-use but are most noteably known for their soft fluffy wool. Shaved Kalmas are actually very thin and an example of one is shown to the right.
Kalmas are also used for their Meat. Meat-bred Kalmas are much thicker than wool-bred Kalmas, but usually have worse quality wool and are prone to getting fat.
Baby Kalmas are called Cria and are usually born in the Spring so they reach maturity in the Fall.
Their mothers are extremely territorial over their young, as they only have 1-2 at a time. Cria drink their mother's milk for the first few weeks of their life before they move to grazing on vegetation.
They live in their herd for their entire lives, unless they voluntarily leave to find a mate and start their own herd.
