How We Organize Ourselves

Unit 2: September 23 - November 1, 2019

Central Idea

Roles and responsibilities of community members help us function and impact our world.

Lines of Inquiry

  • The roles/purpose of individuals within communities
  • How communities are organized (structure, rules)
  • How community members act in ways that impact their world

Reading

During this unit scholars will be diving into a variety of ways communities are organized. These communities can range from human to environmental communities. Scholars will be learning about what makes a community run and work. Several of the books will focus on all different aspects of a community including apartments, libraries, fire stations, and more. Books will also focus on how people contribute to communities. Throughout this unit we will also be learning about organization and structure beyond a human community. This understanding will push scholars to see that all communities have ways they are the same and ways they are different.
