Moonshadow Skimmers are usually found in the stiller waters where rivers meet the sea, or where the water is made still via protective rock outcroppings, it is also found in great numbers in saltwater swamps. Its flat, disc-like body allows it to navigate easily through dense underwater vegetation and roots.

Its monochrome gray scales help it blend into the shadowy bottoms of its habitats. The vertical white lines mimic shafts of light filtering through water, confusing predators and prey alike.

Despite its somewhat ghostly appearance, the Moonshadow Skimmer is known for its curious and bold nature. It often follows larger creatures to scavenge leftovers, using its disc shape to quickly hide under rocks or within aquatic plants when threatened.

The male guards the nest until the eggs hatch, fanning water with his long front fins to keep the eggs oxygenated and free of silt.

They tend to only reach around six inches in length at most, and are often smoked, dried, salted, and eaten as chips are.

Reaching lengths of up to seven feet, they make for an impressive catch, usually eaten raw or grilled over an open flame.

The Stardust Shoal is commonly found in clear, shallow waters near coastlines and reefs. They prefer areas with moderate currents where they can gather in large, mesmerizing schools.

The dark black tops of the Stardust Shoal, with their purple sheen and scattered bright flecks, create a stunning resemblance to a starry night sky. The pale lavender underbellies provide camouflage from predators below, who confuse them for shafts of moonlight.

Stardust Shoals are highly social creatures, often swimming together in synchronized patterns that mesmerize onlookers. They communicate with each other through subtle movements and flashes of color, creating a vibrant display of light and motion.

Catching one makes catching more a breeze, as pulling one from the water usually causes a few more to leap onto docks or fishing boats on instinct. Don't worry, they rarely get to be longer than five or six inches in length, so being hit by one is no big deal.

Their starry markings continue to give off a slight light even after death, so they're usually gutted out, removed of their fins, then poached in jars of oil and spices to maintain their appearance.

The Mossback Marauder is commonly found in murky, shallow waters such as swamps, marshes, and muddy riverbeds. Its mottled brown coloration and algae-like markings provide excellent camouflage among the dense vegetation.

Its mouth is dexterous and capable of manipulating objects, allowing it to forage for food among the tangled roots and vegetation of its habitat. It is an opportunistic feeder, consuming a variety of prey including small fish, crustaceans, insects, and even plant material.

Although not large enough to kill an adult of most humanoid species, they will nip at the legs of those moving through swamplands, just to check. The bigger danger is stepping on them and gaining an infected wound in their swampy habitat.

A solitary and territorial creature, fiercely defending its territory from intruders. It is highly adapted to its environment, using its ridge of spines along its back as a deterrent against predators and rivals.

Little is known about the breeding habits of the Mossback Marauder, other than that they move from inland habitats to the sea to breed.

At adult sizes, they tend to even out at around three  feet in length.

They tend to taste somewhat like mud, so eating them isn't everyone's first choice, but if well cleaned and breaded with extremely heavily spiced crumbs, they can make for a decent meal.

 The Opalglow Spellshark is often found in areas where magical energies are particularly strong, such as the places where Hangata is maintaining a tether to another world.

Its dark black coloration provides camouflage in the depths. The orbs surrounding the Opalglow Spellshark are conduits of magic and mana, allowing it to tap into the mystical forces of the world. When caught and used as an item in combat, the shark can unleash a single random spell from its repertoire of magical abilities before the energy contained within the orbs is depleted.

Despite its magical abilities, the Opalglow Spellshark is not aggressive towards humanoids and is often regarded with awe and reverence by those who encounter it. It is known to be a lonesome creature, preferring the solitude of deeper waters where magical energies are more abundant. 

Often revered as a creature of great mystical power, capable of bestowing blessings or curses upon those who encounter it.

Despite their haunting appearance, Sea Specters are sought after by seasoned fishermen for their rarity. Their movements, slow and otherworldly, are hypnotic, as if not bound by the conventions of earthly creatures.

Folktales suggest that the Sea Specters are the lost spirits of sailors, bound to the physical world through unknown mystical forces.

Quite a delicacy, the denizens of Ikseo are especially fond of Sea Specters, which are cooked and coated in a sweet and salty glaze, and then usually eaten in individual slices, over rice, or whole on skewers.

Some claim the Verdant Wispfin is a guide for lost souls. Its glowing yellow eyes are said to “see” not only in water, but also beyond it—watching those who trespass on sacred waters.

This small fish is not often hunted for food, as its flesh is bitter and tough. Instead, it is revered for its supposed spiritual significance. 

During spawning season, Verdant Wispfins gather in large numbers, their movements turning entire ponds into rippling fields of green. It’s a rare and magical sight that has earned them the nickname "The Swimming Meadow."

At its “head,” a small, puckered mouth sits encircled by a crown of long, sinuous tendrils. Each tendril branches subtly into delicate, whisker-like extensions that wave gently in the water, both sensing prey and sweeping it inward. Though its movements are slow and deliberate, the Embercoil Lurker is an adept ambush predator. It buries itself in soft sediment, its tendrils splayed out to resemble drifting kelp, waiting patiently for smaller creatures to stray too close.

Fisherfolk who patrol shores at twilight often hear soft scraping sounds, followed by the quiet splash of a Sailjaw returning to the water.

The fish's underbite—its lower jaw extending like a hooked lever—reveals the true secret to its hunting. With a sudden, forceful lunge, the Sailjaw snaps open its oversized mouth to create a vacuum, sucking smaller fish and insects into its gaping maw before they can react. 

Despite its eerie habits, the Sailjaw is prized for its flesh, which is firm and faintly sweet, favored by those who believe consuming it grants endurance in harsh times.
